    Need some "boomy" percussion.

I'm in search of some percussion samples - taiko, dhol, etc. - that have that classic "Hollywood BOOM" sound to them. I'm open to all suggestions - $50 Ebay sample CDs and full-fledged libraries.

I think Stormdrum might be one of the best options for me (as far as overall value is concerned), but any other suggestions are welcome.

    Cheers.

Sorry, I guess I should clarify. I'm not looking for a single, big "BOOM" sound. I'm looking for percussion that have a very "big" sound to them. Taiko and Dhol are the two that really spring to mind at the moment. I have a few good "boom" hits similar to the ones you describe with your FX treatment, but I'm looking for something more useful in terms of playable percussion than single-hit effects.

    Hope that helps...

Storm Drums has some of the best big percussion samples

other things to look at are the one shots in Percussive Adventures

I dont have Perc Adv 2 so maybe there's some in there

Rare Instruments also has Taikos, but the SD ones are better for "big" stuff...but I always think you cant have enough

Ethno World has some nice percussion samples that lend to "big" stuff nicely. Ethno 2 might have more, I dont own that one either.

EWQLSO percussion, and Sam True Strike will have alot to offer for this stuff.

Heart of Asia has dragon drums, as well as other percussion of use

G-Town free samples have some cool stomps and toms.

I like the roland fake taiko in their GM bank on the XP/JV series for some things

also never under estimate a good room mic on a rock drum kit.

VRSounds Percussion lib has some useful stuff for layering in

Uhm... that should be enough, though I know theres a bunch more I cant think of at the moment
Operation Mindcrime 2, in stores now.
    or go here...

I would totally go for StormDrum, the thunderensemble patch is simply amazing and very playable.

Also Stylus RMX has some outstanding big hits.

yes but SD has few individual hits. So what if i want to do a phrase of big percussions ? something like : "ta ta ta dadadada ta ta ta dadadada ta ta ta dadadadadada ta ta ta " it will sound pretty fake with SD because there is not more than 2 variations for each hits in stormdrums librarie.

It's really too bad, Stormdrums could have been a great librarie ( the recording quality is awesome ! ) but there are too many loops, we can't do what WE want, we are limited by these recorded phrases...
