    Timpani Problems

Has anyone else encountered static sounds on a loud timpani roll and is there a fix?

    Re: Timpani Problems

I am working on piece were the orchestra comes to a ff with a timpani roll. At about the third beat (4/4 time) a loud static distortion occurs. I have isolated it to the timpani. I encountered two other instances were this has happened and in both cases, removing the timpani has stopped it. Obviously, this compromises the integrity of the score.

Try lowering the polyphony for the timpani or it may be possible you have too many notes playing for the roll.

Lower the polyphony? OK, I give. Where and how do I do that?

This is what I'm experiencing. In this case the dynamic is mf (80) and velocity at 80.

I get that sometimes in Sonar, and moving the latency slider cures it.
Don't know if that helps you.

I'm new to GPO and still have a lot to learn. Where do I control latency? I'm willing to try anything.

    Re: Timpani Problems

This doesn't sound to me like a polyphony problem. What are your system specs?
Just curious, the timpani is rolling an what (straight 8ths, 16ths, 32nds, triplets in respect to previous mentioned?)

GOT IT! Thanks! Found the latency control and it worked.
