    Talking Massively OT, but WOW

Sorry everyone, but I just discovered Tom Waits. I can't think why I'd never heard of him before, but my guitar teacher just lent me Mule Variations and told me to listen. And now I'm hooked. My wife is already sick of hearing me sing 'Cookin' up a Filipino Boxspring Hog.'

Ha ha, awesome man. Tom Waits is probably one of America's great artists.

Go pick of some of his old stuff as well. He's got a lot of great music. I was bopping along to the Small Change CD yesterday in the car.

Thumbs up Re: Massively OT, but WOW

Tom Waits is absolutely amazing. If you don't cry when you hear Kentucky Avenue off of the album Blue Valentine you ain't human. Or "On the Nickel" off of Heart Attack and Vine. This man can write like no other. One of the world's greatest songsmiths IMHO.

Do check out his earier stuff.

    Small Change
    Blue Valentine
    Nighthawks at the Diner
    Foreign Affairs

    He's also a great actor
    Ironweed
    Bram Stokers Dracula

    Enjoy,

    Daren

His role in Dracula (the film with winona ryder) was the man in the jail, eating insects and praying that his master will arrive...

Tom Waits also acted in some Jim Jarmusch films, which I all recommend.

Don't worry, I don't need to be told twice to look up the early stuff. Currently combing ebay as I write. This guy is fantastic.

In some ways the singer of the Eels is trying to be Tom Waits on the new album.
