We now have a GPO Podcast on the Composer Channel site (we're not podcasting the Composer Channel radio show content as some people didn't want their music distributed in this manner).
This Podcast will contain a wide variety of musical styles from the Garritan demo collection, the recent competition winners, and anything else new that Gary comes up with that he'd like us to broadcast. We're currently providing content in 11 different musical styles.
What is a Podcast?
Subscribing to a Podcast is very similar to subscribing to an RSS feed with your news reader. Rather than having to go out to a web site and check for audio downloads, Podcasts that you subscribe to will automatically download new audio content, typically in mp3 format, to your desktop or portable mp3 player.
You don't have to have an iPod to listen to Podcasts - that's just the name that caught on. For Windows users, audio will download to Windows Media Player, which can then be transferred to your Pocket PC or other portable device. For iPod users, the content will download directly to your iPod.
How do I listen to a Podcast?
To subscribe to our Podcast, you'll need to install a Podcast client, which handles the task of automatically downloading audio that you subscribe to into your mp3 player. Like RSS news readers, there are quite a few out there. We've had good luck with the iPodder from www.ipodder.org. They're also a great source of information on Podcasting since they're the folks who created Podcasting.
Subscribing to the GPO Podcast is free, as are most of the Podcasting software programs currently available.
So, if you don't have one already, download a Podcasting application. Then, go to www.ShowProgramming.com and click on the orange XML button or GPO Podcast link, copy the URL that your broswer then navigates to into your Podcasting application, and you're all set!
