I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

My wife, who leads children's choir at our church, asked me to arrange a short accompaniment for "I heard the Bells on Christmas Day" that her kids could sing with. The age group is from pre-school to fifth-grade. This is what I came up with.

    The GPO instrumentation is:
Flute solo V, Oboe 1 modern solo, BB Clairnet pla1, Bassoon 1 pla1, French Horn 1 pla1, Tpt 1 pla1, Tenor Tbone pla1, Bass Trombone 1 solo, Tuba 1 solo, Timpani KS, Glockenspiel, Chromatic Harp 1, Violin 1 Gagli KS solo, Vlns1 KS, Vlns 2 KS, Violas KS, Cellos KS, Basses KS

    Lyrics:
I heard the bells on Christmas Day,
    Their old familiar carols play;
And wild and sweet their words repeat,
Of Peace On Earth, Good Will To Men,
I thought, as now this day had come,
    The belfries of all Christendom
Had rung so long the unbroken song
Of Peace On Earth, Good Will To Men.

And in despair I bowed my head,
"There is no peace on earth," I said,
"For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of Peace On Earth, Good Will To Men."
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep,
"God is not dead nor doth He sleep.
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
with, Peace On Earth, Good Will To Men."

With Fossman's arrangement being for his local church there won't be any problems along these lines, but FYI for those of us who do commercial work:

I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day

    Words by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Music Copyright (C) 1956, Johnny Marks

There is also a public domain melody for the words, written in 1872 by John Calkin that you can listen to here. It is also very recognizable but not as haunting as Mr. Marks'.

Ah, yes. Thank you for adding that. Though I didn't in any way mean to imply the composition was mine, I appreciate you keeping me honest.
