    Linda,

I would say that the voting is over, but you're the moderator. What do the other forum members think?

Is there anyone who wanted to vote but hasn't yet?

Re: Cast your Orchestration Challenge 4 vote!

I got out and voted - thanks for waiting.

Boy, this contest sure was a lot different than the previous one. Did everyone just up and decide to do such serious academic-style works?

But I like different, so the contrast - and the prevalent academic style - was thoroughly enjoyable.

    So Bravo again, everyone.

and thanks Linda for hosting it - hee, hee, I'm already eagerly awaiting what the next winner decides to do next ...

PS I really enjoyed it last time when everyone who participated came out and "fessed up" to their entry and gave some comments about what they did. That was a very special treat. So please do that this time too!

Re: Cast your Orchestration Challenge 4 vote!

    OK then, here goes.

This was a real tough one, I had to sift them off one by one. And I still ended up with 4 very good entries, Nos 1,2,6 & 7, that I just couldn't get myself to sift off. In the end, what made the final difference for me was - the end.

Or rather, in the case of No 1, the lack of an end - it just ends mid-air. Appart from the missing ending, a fine composition and orchestration, though.

No 2 has an ending, but a very weak one. Just a drawn out broken chord, not really in line with the rest of the composition, which I think is brilliant. No 2 was for a long time my favourite, and it puzzles me, that it didn't get more votes. But maybe I'm not the only one, who thinks the ending is weak.

No 7 was a lot harder to get rid of - and I'm still not rid of it . At first I didn't pay much attention to it, it seemed too superficial to me. But then it started to creep in on me and it crept - and it kept creeping. In fact it is still creeping this thing has a lot going on beyond the surface! The one element I don't like so much, is the use of the piano, the broken chords - it's superfluous. Get rid of it, you don't need it.

No 6, well, you may have guessed it. At the end of the day I had to cast my vote on No 6, because it is PERFECT and very, very satisfying to listen to. Ladies and Gents, hats off, we have a genius in our midst! Thank you, unknown maestro, for a wonderful musical experience, and congratulations with the victory ( sorry, Linda, for stealing your call ).

    Yay, WELL DONE #6 !!

This was an excellent challenge - thanks Linda.

I'll be the first confessor, and own up to entry #3. Once I have consolled myself with coming 4th, I'll write up my orchestation process.

I can't wait to find out who submitted entry #6.
