    More String Quartet Music

    Hey guys,

This is another movement of the modal String Quartet I am writing. This one is in A Dorian, with an E lydian, fugue like thing in the middle.

    Enjoy,

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Fantastic contrapuntal writing conjuring the ghost of Tippet at times, but utterly original, perhaps it is the Season but I thought you were quoting "Joy to the World" at one point.
Wow wait till you get the Garritan Strad, it is going to sound amazing. If I could afford it(which I can't ) I would buy it for you, just to hear this piece.
Superb work Matt. Keep it up, you have found a rich vein of ore to mine here.

    Hi
Excellent work in every regard and an interesting composition. I am very impressed with the dynamics and your control of the bowing. Throughly enjoyable. Thanks.

Thumbs up Re: More String Quartet Music

Quoting Joaz, I think that sounds are not supporting enough the value of your composition, even if you did a very good job with dynamics and expressions.

It probably is a gorgeous pice with future (close, very close future) sounds.

Of course it IS a nice pice, if a real quartet play it

A strong piece, excellent writing and really solid counterpoint, Matt... a truly fine example of the best of quartet writing. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this.

I would go with Fabio's comment on this, though, about working toward a "stronger" sound in some parts of the piece. I regret, I, too, have difficulty with the GPO strings preserving resonance and body in very soft passages; so I don't have a ready solution to that.

Perhaps one of our better tech wizards here can lend a tip or two!

Better sounds huh? hmmmm Any suggestions on how to achieve that.

I'm running GPO through sibelius, so maybe I could adjust the down velocities, or use different Keyswitches?

Specific advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks for the support!

My apologies Matt, if i gave the impression, that I didnt like the sounds. I think within the current limits of solo strings libraries, you have done a great job. It is just that when the Strad comes out, the extra expression available will help a detailed piece like yours a lot. The monotony of vibrato, is not your fault, and I bet if you could have crescendos going from non-vibrato to huge intense vibrato, you would use it.
I really loved the composition. And was just trying to say, that the final audio rendering, will only be substantially improved, when the new more expressive tools are introduced.
    regards

    Matt,
I was impressed with your 2nd string quartet and this one is equally fascinating. Your dynamics and phrasing are impeccable as well as the writing. I agree with the previous comments, this will sound great with the Strad software.

Wow!! Great string writing! Amazing quartet, I wish I could hear it played live. Fantastic work . . . I admit I am not knowledgeable to comment on the music theory side of it, but on the pure listening side, this is a great listen!
