    M-Audio Orchestral Strings- thumbs up!

I just picked up the the M-Audio Orchestral Strings DVD and find the sounds to be very good for $100. Not a lot of variety but I like the smooth sound of the ensemble patches. I worked up a couple little pieces using the strings and then some VSL Kontakt 2 instruments and it sounded quite good. I might get the Orchestral Brass disc at some point because I like the S.I. Brass and all these samples are derived from Sonic Implants' Orchestral Library. I was pleased to discover that there are release samples in some of the patches. Very cool. Great value.

Yes they do sound nice and blend well with other libraries. My complaint is that you I already had them from their download site. They are the same strings you can buy on the SI Site for $49.95. So I paid more for strings I already had. The brass is the same...you can download it for a lot less from their site. It's not the same as the new brass library. It's derived from older stuff. You can find it here...

It would be nice if that was mentioned somewhere.
The download percussion stuff is also very usable.

Yes, these strings are really nice - not too sparse and not too thick. The only downside is that it's making me want the full Symphonic Strings package now!

    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to drop in and point out that these M-Audio titles are definitely NOT a rehash of previous download products; that goes for both the Strings & Brass titles.

I can see where there might be some confusion regarding the Strings but you should keep in mind that the strings download product is about 60Mb whereas the M-Audio title is a little less than 1Gb. That's accounted for w/more velocities, more samples, and more articulations.

As for the brass- all the content in the M-Audio title comes directly from our Symphonic Brass Collection and not from any of the brass downloads, which were recorded quite a while before.

    Hope this clears things up!

Thanks for the info Peter. I really like the Strings and will probably get the brass soon because I find the staccato brass from the samples that came with Gigastudio 3 to be quite good. Can never have enough brass.

Nice to know that the brass is not recycled from the downloads. Anyway to find out what articulations, etc . are included in the M-Audio Brass?

    Hi all,
This is interesting, i have been looking for a quality string collection for reason, to use inside protools le. I have GPO but it really causes alot of problems on my Imac G5

After checking the M audio site i would love to know what articulations are included, and how they are set up for use in reason, as there is very little real info on the maudio site.

    Any advice would be great

    Thanks
    Pat

I bought the Orchestral Brass today along with the Korg Legacy Digital Collection and I find the M-Audio Brass (aka SI Brass) to be very usable and an excellent value. True there aren't a plethora of articulations as are in the full SI Brass set but this is an inexpensive way of getting some great brass sounds (including ensemble patches) for very little cash.

    Nice one M-Audio/Sonic Implants!!!

Anyone tried the M-Audio Premium Grand? Guitar Center has it for $79. Only three layers, but it's done by Sonic Reality. Very tempting. Not a vsti, though. Apparently Kontakt and a few other programs.
