How to create real pro bass shots

    Hi y`all

Listen to the following mp3 file at exactly 1:05 a real cool bass shot gets played! Of course you can take it from a sample library. But is it possible to create exactly bass shots like this one? Just with an vst or soundmodule instrument in midi?

    http://files.spectrasonics.net/mp3/B...ooves_demo.mp3

    Thanks to y`all!

    Sounds like a processed Tom.
I'd personaly use a sampel library for this because it'd be quite easy to
create this sound, however if you absolutely want a softsynth doing
this I'd have a closer look at NIs Absynth, a friend of mine produces
    extreme cool basses with it.
But that's most probably much more work to get the same result.

Good luck and a happy new year.

    Hi Tom

    Thank you for your reply.

Yeah, it`s possible that it be a "processed tom", Tom . I wrote to Spectrasonics some days before, but didn`t received an answer yet where the guitar sounds are from. But I think their maybe Live Played.

Normally Spectrasonics declares everything what`s been used in their demos.

p.s. what sample libraries do you use for those bass effects?

    thx

It's just a slide down the string. Most sample libraries have them in one form or another. You could simulate it with almost anything if you are a good synthesist or mixer. Or find a bass player--they grow on trees.

    Trilogy has lots of slides.
And the best part is that they work perfectly with the actual bass sound because they are coming from the same source!
    Sounds totally organic.

If I had to duplicate that I'd just play it with the wheel and then probably tweak it in piano roll view if it wasn't smooth enough.
Or possibly just draw it in with the pencil in the first place.

First. Thanks for all your replies!

I also play slides with the wheel and draw them with the pencil if it wasn`t smooth enough. But I wondered how this bass shot (the pitch bend curve) could look like for a sound like this. Of course down...

Do you got some examples? I wanted to buy Trilogy but I got so many bass sounds! I would loose the overview...

    Thanks a lot!

The only advice i can offer is to check the demosongs at the Spectrasonics website.
You should find plenty of examples for bass slides being used in these demos.
I am sure i used some in the demos that i did.

You will also get an idea how Trilogy could complement your existing bass lib.

Re: How to create real pro bass shots

When I made that demo I used the Bass slides from our original "Bass Legends" sample library.

But a lot of the slides were also done with my Minimoog, using the sliding glissando technique with the palm of the hand. Sometimes I used the Electric Bass slides from Bass Legends AND doubled it with the Minimoog for more dramatic effect.

(BTW, I never use the modwheel or drawing controllers for these types of slides...the physicality of playing them live is really important)

The guitars are mostly my playing of samples from Hans Zimmer Guitars vol.1 and my JD-990 and Prophet VS. The cleaner strummed stuff is live guitar.

Trilogy does have a huge variety of these kinds of slides....we kind of went nuts with that one! :-)
