Intel Dual Core Apple Macintoshes Arrive

There's a new PowerBook (renamed MacBook Pro)
and a new iMac, all with the Intel Core Duo processor.

The MacBook Pro and iMac have pretty much the same specs as recently announced Windows/Intel Dual Core notebooks by Acer, HP and others, according to PC Magazine. The Apple MacBook Pro will be priced about the same as the equivalent-spec new Acer model. This should be interesting. Let the benchmarking begin.

    This is big news, people.

Fabio, did you have access to a Mac/Intel developer machine from last year?

    How about Mr. Garritan?

Too bad there's no PowerMac Intel equivalent yet. I'll hold off for that. The iMac's are under spec'd for what I'd need.

Steve Jobs stated today that the entire Mac line will move to Intel by the end of the year. But he's made severe mis-statements before. It's that Reality Distortion Field of his that throws people off guard.

Still, today is a good start...

Of course his mis-statements were, in his words, Motorola's fault. I am sure Intel will deliver. They have to be overjoyed at this whole thing.

Hopefully by that time they'll have most of the important stuff running natively on the Intel based systems. There'd be no point in it being out right now, as most of the programs that people would be running on a PowerMac would either suffer in performance due to emulation or just not run at all.

And I wonder if they'll rename the PowerMac since they renamed the PowerBook...

Probably not. Jobs explained that Apple just wanted people to know it was a Mac. So the iBook will probably be called the MacBook.
