    Logic PC -Great dissapointment!

    Hi!

I bought Garritan Jazz & Big Band a few weeks ago. If I had known that Native Instruments Kontakt Sampler was involved I would probably decided not to buy it.

Mosty because I havent had any problems with any software VST plugins or registration forms earlier. Ok I admit I am still using Logic 5 for PC. (I also admit that I bought Cubase SX3 as well, but have no extra time learning it cause I got too many production cases with short deadlines popping up all the time).

However, the latest days I have had too much problems with their idiotic registration form. They tell I already have a registered email account but when I try this email they say it doesnt excist? When trying to contact them there is no answers or replies at all.

Another thing is their totally worthless explanation about the not working modulation wheel. This is probably the most pathetic reason to blame someone else for your incompetence I ever heard. They say its an old bug in Logics old PC version that makes their modulation wheel end up in a null value position all the time. Crap! In that case.. why doesnt this happend with any of the other samplers I bought recently... Hypersonic, X-Phrase, Atmosphere or any other... I know why!

These guys at those other companies have by evidence more competence to program stuff that works.

Youre damn right I am angry, frustrated and push a little hard here... but honestly I think they deserve even more critisism than this. Personally I wouldnt have one customer left if I ever had come up with such a bad behaviour and lousy explanations.

    Dear mr Nixon!

I love ironic comments... Just thought this was a forum part for all kinds of support questions...

Sorry for the delay in responding but I just got back from LA and the NAMM convention (I stayed a couple of days longer than Gary.)

Of course, we try to make it very clear in our literature and on our web site that we use the NI Kontakt player, but, in general, if you have a system problem with any particular plugin engine then it would be wise to thoroughly check into this before purchase of any product.

Logic 5 is unfortunately problematic. You almost certainly will get better results from Cubase SX3 if you find time to learn it. I was a user of Logic and its predecessors for over 13 years until Apple acquired Emagic and dropped PC support. I continued to use Logic 5.5 on PC for a couple of years until its lack of support and obsolete nature presented just too many problems - especially with respect to its incomplete VST implementation. As much as I liked Logic, I finally gave up and moved on. I now use both Cubase and Sonar and have encountered no VST problems.

If mod wheel data is used as intended the problem of the wheel returning to zero will primarily be avoided. Mod wheel data is not a "set and forget" volume control. It is an expressive volume/timbre control. Properly applied, the data will be in almost continuous control of the instrument, shaping the dynamic ebb and flow of the passage. Since the control data is relatively continuous the instrument level will never drop to zero except when you intend it. Here's a screenshot of a typical track and its mod wheel data (in pinkish purple.)

This is a good example of how the data should look in any given mod wheel-controlled track. For horns, it is analogous to the amount of air flow across the reed/lip. Short notes are preceded by a single piece of mod wheel data; sustained notes are "shaped" throughout their duration. Since the JABB instrument is receiving almost constant updates on cc1 data it never errantly drops to zero. Hope this helps with your problem.

    Logic PC -Great dissapointment!

    Hi!

A few days ago I decided to put Logic in the sack. Since I had a license for Cubase SX3 it wasnt much of a choice. And since even the Colossus software plug with Kompakt as a player started to mess around in Logic I didnt really had no options.

To change a main music software going from Logic to Cubase SX3 is of course a time problem when you are in production phaze for a customer. But I think I can manage that sas well...

Now I look forward to find some time to get into the world of Garritans Jazz and Big Band sounds and possibilities.

Thanks for taking your time helping me with this decision...
