Unhappy Sound card issue with GPO studio

I recently got GPO studio, in order to be able to work with Sibelius 3/GPO. Everthing was going perfectly, until i accidentally changed my sound
card settings in the GPO studio 'settings' toolbar.

Anyway, GPO studio crashed, and it screws up each time i try
to start it up - which prevents me from changing the settings back
to the way it was before. Also, i've tried uninstsalling and reinstsalling
both GPO and GPO studio, and for some reason even AFTEr the reinstall
GPO studio remembers the wrong setting.

Oh, and i have an Audigy 2 ZS sound card in case anyone was wondering...

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this problem? It's oh
    so frustrating :P...

oh, and one other thing - the error i get when i start up
    GPO studio is

    'portaudioerror (-9997): Invalid sample rate'

then it says 'major violation has occured' and shuts itself down...

Open the stand alone version. Go to File, setup, audio. Set sample rate 4800. This is the only setting that will work with your card. There may be other problems also, but this must be set before you can do much of anything. Also set: interface, ASIO. Output device Creative ASIO.

That ought to get you going. If not, holler again!

Re: Sound card issue with GPO studio

    Hey there,

did everything you said, but still i get the same message

oh, and just some added bits of info..... last time i was just remembering
the error message as best i could so i accidentially left some stuff out :P

the exact error message i get is.

    '
    SB Audigy 2 ZS ASIO 24/96 [A...(duplex)

Portaudio error (-9997): Invalid sample rate
    '
(the 'SB Audigy 2 ZS ASIO 24/96 message is on the header of the box)

    then

'Error: unable to initialize audio driver'

    then

    'Access Violation'

and then it shuts down... Its really weird though - if i had uninstalled then
reinstalled it, how would it remember a setting like this?!? if GPO studio stores these settings then surely an reinstall should fix it?

Re: Sound card issue with GPO studio

    Hi all

the version of GPO studio i'm using is one i downloaded only a few
days ago from the garritan site, so it cant be that old - however
i have now downloaded the new one from the link you provided -
    thanks

Un update on the situation...i **finally** managed to get into GPO studio
by starting windows in safe mode, changing the sample rate, then restarting in normal mode. So now at least i can get into the program :P

However, now i cant manage to hear any sound in GPO standalone. It's currently set to Output Device: 'Creative ASIO' with a '4800' sample rate.

The other options i get for a sound card in the GPO settings are

ASIO Direct X FULL DUPLEX DRIVER
    ASIO MULTIMEDIA DRIVER
    CREATIVE ASIO
    SB AUDIGY 2 ZS ASIO 24/96 [A...
    SB AUDIGY 2 ASIO [AC00]

Similarly, when i'm in GPO studio i get the following options when
looking at 'settings' (same as in standalone).

[ASIO]Adobe Default Windows Sound 1.5 (duplex)
[ASIO]ASIO Direct X Full Duplex Driver (duplex)
    [ASIO]ASIO Multimedia Driver (duplex)
    [ASIO]Creative ASIO (duplex)
    [ASIO]SB AUDIGY 2 ZS ASIO 24/96 [A...(duplex)
    [ASIO]SB AUDIGY 2 ASIO [AC00]

Could i please have some advice on which one of these options
would be optimal? I'm not sure what the difference between the two
audigy drivers are, or wether the Creative might be a better option.
(i am very much a noowb at this stage :P)

PS thanks heaps for all the help so far

Re: Sound card issue with GPO studio

Hi Jaraka, set it for your ASIO SB AUDIGY 2 ZS ASIO 24/96 A...(duplex)

I am not familiar with your exact setup, but I am just trying to help you get going.

I suppose you are using either Windows XP Home edition, or Windows XP Pro. If so, go to the Windows START menu, and select control panel, then click on sound and audio devices. Click on the Audio tab at the top, and see if your Audigy 2 ZS ASIO soundcard is in this "default" box.

Make sure this is the same device you are using for your system.
Aside from these recommendations, I don't know what else to say because I don't use GPO Studio. Otherwise I would be happy to help troubleshoot with you over the phone.

Someone who does use GPO Studio will help you, so hang in there.

Yes in fact GPO Studio 1.2 is VERY old. The new program is called
"Garritan Studio" and its at v2.0 (although still in the works, it solves many audio driver issues that were present in 1.2)

"SB AUDIGY 2 ZS ASIO 24/96 [A...(duplex)" Should not be used as it only runs at 96Khz.. and its no use to let the sampler engine do sample rate conversion from the 44.1KHz sample to 96 KHz. Its just a waste of CPU cycles.
Even the Audigy's 48Khz (the other choice) is also not the best possible choice, but you have no other. Appart from trying out ASIO4ALL.

I dont understand the other issue you are having. Are you trying to run both Garritan Studio AND GPO standalone at the same time?

Talking Re: Sound card issue with GPO studio

Well, after taking the advice not to use the Audigy 24/96,
i've opted for the Audigy 2 ZS ASIO [AC00], and now
everything seems to be working fine...

thanks so much to everybody who posted and helped me out!
