Great mix by the way!

I have listened to nearly all your postings, I think, since I joined this wonderful forum, and have to say this might be my favourite of all your pieces. You produce consistently excellent results. And I can't wait for the next one.
Hey Paul, pleased you had a chance to listen to this -- and I thank you so much for your most generous and kind comments.

I, too, thought "HOLY CRAP!" was, undoubtedly, one of the finest reviews I've ever received... lol -- especially coming from Dan.

And... 80-100 hours, gosh, I don't know about you, but to me that seems like an excessively long time to produce eight or so minutes of music. Am I perhaps misguided it in this?

I also greatly appreciate the comment on the mix; it eases my mind -- I had a heck of a headcold at the time, couldn't hear very well, and was very concerned that I might have completely botched the job.

    Thanks again, Paul.

    All my best,

    David.

    Thank you so much, Karl!

To me, it's the ultimate compliment that you would save my work for future listening!

    I've always wondered

    - who is this Time Being?
    - why do so many do so much for him/her?

You're right - I do look at the world in a rather tongue-in-cheek, irreverent manner... it helps me retain my sanity and irritates stuffy, hidebound grumps.

Jonathan, I do believe we'd get on just fine as neighbors were we closer by... lol.

People have called me "relentlessly cheerful". (I hope that doesn't show in my music too much; it'd completely ruin my image -- but I admit it delights me how annoying some people find this.)

Yet within, I find so many events on our planet deeply concerning and unsettling, horrific and incomprehensible. Humor is perhaps the only rational way to deal with that on the day-to-day.

But in the music, especially as I age, I find myself asking, Why is this so? What is the nature of the underlying fabric of our cosmos, that it can allow such things?

Perhaps there are answers to be found there, perhaps not... but for the, er, timebeing, it seems one of the better ways to ask the questions...

    David,

This work is absolutely astonishing! It is so original and stunningly beautiful, that I am in awe of your talent. Such rich and striking harmonies, and complete command of orchestral color!

    Keep up the great work!

As you know, I'm quite an admirer of your own fine work, Jamie, so this is a an especially high compliment, coming from someone of your formidable skills. Thank you so much!

(If you missed Jamie's truly excellent Autumn Concerto, go listen!)

Um, I'm afraid of piling on in an already impressively long thread, but wow. I want this to be performed, somehow. You should enter it when we have our next competition, and hopefully the rules will allow its length. This is a fascinating work, on multiple levels. Was it Karl who said he was inspired by it? I agree!

This piece is emblematic of what makes this forum so exciting.

Yes indeedy, I think you are right - we'd have fun as neighbors

As for the nature of the cosmos, and the state of things in our little corner of it, I'll not comment here, since that begins to depart too much from the topicality of this forum section - I do agree that humor (even tinged with dark sarcasm) can help stave off worrying about things over which we have no control. Perhaps by bringing beauty into the world through music we can make a difference (or even by trying to discuss difficult concepts through musical discourse). If it is a catharsis for us, and maybe speaks to others in some way (even just to make them think instead of react) we have done good, I believe.

Thank you, Jonathan, I appreciate that. I have no interest in discussing my own beliefs (or lack of them), either - that's personal to each of us.

But the deeper general theme, central to perhaps every belief, of our relationship with darkness and enlightenment (or good and evil, if you prefer) -- this is one of the great discussions of all arts, including music.

In that it is the grist from which this piece is milled, it bears mention, of course. And if Lucifer And Gandhi has given people pause for personal thought on matters like this, I am deeply gratified.

    My best,

    David.

Thank you so much for these kind comments, Rich, I appreciate them.

I've said previously that this piece would seem to be somewhat difficult in both conducting and performance, so I think I would actually face such a possibility with a certain dread... lol.

As far as the forum -- lately there seems to be a great deal of new and superbly written material posted. It is an honor to be in such company!
