    Dukas

"Sorcerer's Apprentice." How many of you were first exposed to this fascinating piece of music through Disney's movie Fantasia? I'm listening to the piece and my children rush in and shout, "hey that's from a Mickey Mouse movie!" Pretty cool to take time out and expose them to the composer and the history.
Just thought I would Cher with youz youts!

My parents had a recording of Sorcerer's Apprentice coupled with Peter And The Wolf featuring Jim Backus (Mr. Magoo!!) doing the narration. IIRC he read the poem over SA as well- this was a long time ago!! Anyway I know I heard that record when I was about 2, way before I ever got to Disney's version.

I had the same LP! And I saw the movie at the theater! Don't make them like that anymore!

I hate Fantasia! I don't want to associate the great musical masterpieces with Disney cartoons! Now I am doomed to forever think of Mickey Mouse, brooms, and water whenever I hear that music... talk about an evil marketing scheme...

I was one of those kids that heard the classical music first, then ended up seeing it in cartoons and movies later. I may have been the only kid, of my era, to know which Wagner opera Bugs Bunny and Elmer were doing and the name of the Liszt piano piece that Bugs played. It cracks me up when I play a piece of music and my wife says, "Oh that was from such and such movie." and I tell her, "Ya, but it was written about 100 years before the movie was made." Hahahaha

I had never seen Fantasia but I have known the music since I was about 6 or 7.
Now that I think about it, maybe this is why I am a nut.

You might want to listen to his other works. I love his Sympony in C Major

Now that's a classic. I'd rather go to The Met or Kennedy Center and see a top-notch live performance of "Kill The Wabbit" than The Ring any day.
