I know VSL is the first choice for a lot of people in sampled orchestras but I have never felt confortable with its organization of presets.
Kirk Hunter's SO Emerald is not a lot of money so I'm thinking about buying it. I would be pleased to read your comments about the differences between the 2 libraries. Is there a big difference in sound quality? Is Kirk's as dry as VSL? Does Opus 1+2 have many more articulations than Emerald? Is Emerald easier to use?
Re: From Opus 1+2 to Kirk's Emerald, should I change?
They are two different animals. KHSO is very ambient but is still growing. There are only a couple x-fade string patches so you will find you will want to program your own until Kirk has a change to release an update. Currently he is working on a great Legato system. There is very little percussion in KHSO so the VSL will do nicely there. KHSO has a nice rich sound that is very playable. If the money isn't a big deal give it a try.
