    "Good Vibrations"

    Y'all,

You may not have heard vibraphones in this context very often.

This is my "Good Vibrations", featuring two GPO vibes with small orchestra. All of the instruments (two vibes with soft mallets, strings, flute and timpani) are GPO.

    My best to all,

    Larry A.

Larry! Great idea... and well done, of course.

The vibraphone -- in the hands of a good player -- is most certainly up to the work of a piece like this... and there's far too little of this kind of fine and more challenging literature for it.

One question... did you intend this for two vibraphones, or were two vibraphones used for sake of scoring and technical considerations?

I'd have to see the score to be sure, but I believe one player, with good four-mallet technique, could handle this, er, handily.

I also wouldn't mind hearing a rendition of this on grand marimba, where I believe it would sing equally nicely... just a thought.

    Best,

Thanks for the marimba suggestion, Dave.

I used two vibes because it is technically impossible for one player to handle it.

    Thanks for listening.

Could be, Larry, could be -- parts of it are fairly busy, and that depends on a number of specific factors of reach, spacing, etc.

I went to school with a fellow years back, though, who routinely did fairly quick Bach four-part organ literature on the marimba. Admittedly, an outstanding player... but the stick instruments (and their players) are often underestimated!

Enjoyed the piece, and a second listen of it.

    Dave,

As per your suggestion, I did a GPO marimba version.

    Like that!

The sharper, clearer articulation of the marimba in this seems to serve the piece very well, Larry, especially so in the brisker passages.

If it's any consolation, my 6th month old grandson loved it! He smiled and bounced and conducted all the way through it, and then cried to hear it again.

I think you have a winner here.

My 'fans' are getting younger and younger!

I'm glad that the little dude liked it. Play it again for him.

Awesome! I love it! Hmmm... I can't decide which one I like more... Well, just don't ask me to decide and I'll be fine. The marimba version was certainly worth creating though. Great work as usual! My ear is hearing some good vibrations...
