    Recommendation for Solo Strings

    Hi everyone:

wondering whether I could have some recommnedations for good solo strings.
I often have to make mock-ups for small ensembles that are then performed live.

I currently use KHSS and am very very pleased by their quality, but wanted to ask your opinions on what else is out there (VSL Solo; GOLD PRO, etc. ... yes I have GOLD and am not too excited about the few solo patches there).

    Many thanks in advance!

Well - VSL is the obvious choice if you need the whole ensemble. If your only after a solo violin then Gary's new Strad is worth a peek I think.

What is it you dont like about EWQLSO? I mean your going to have it played live later right? I can only assume its the lack of expression posibilities, in which case I must saw again that VSL is a good choice. The range of articulations is far beyond any other releases.

The close mic samples for solo strings in Platinum Xp pro sound very good. (The viola is great.) Still, you won't have as many articulations as KHSS or VSL. I think the solo strings in platinum xp lack tremolo samples, which is a bummer. Their sound quality is very good. (The price tag is not.)

I love Dan Dean's solo strings..a small library, but excellent quality, as are all his libraries.

I have the Kirk Hunter solo strings and I think they're great. The demos of the Garritan violin sound nice and I've been thinking of buying that one as well.

I have a question about the VSL Horizon solo strings. Are they basically the same sounds found in the bigger VSL libraries or are they some total different animal?

They are the same and more! you get 50 000 samples whit vsl solo strings,.. they are my favorit .

I think gary's strad just as good but deferent.

Kirk Hunter's solo strings are EXCELLENT. For the price you absolutely cannot go wrong. I use the Halion version.

You can buy it for K2, so there is no reason to import.

I don't know if you mean the ones inside of Emerald but they're pretty amazing. Very real, firey, and fast as greased lightning.
