    Haydn's "Surprise" Symphony

This is my first go at trying a written out score in GPO - the "surprise" (2nd movement) from Haydn's Symphony no. 94 in G, written in 1792. It's scored for 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2.trumpets, timpani, and strings.
It shows what a master craftsman can do with a simple theme, which is put through contrasting variations.

A lot of work went into this, Eugene. Good job on it.

I'm always a little amazed, as you note, by the mileage The Masters could get out of the barest of thematic resources -- as well as an ensemble that lightly configured!

Excellent work, Eugene! And excellent choice, I can listen to Haydn and Mozart all day, lol. Your interpretation shows a solid vision of this work.
I think the masters took pride in being able to take a simple motif and wring the the most out of it.
    Great job rendering this.

Thanks Valhalx and etLux for your encouraging comments. I have a lot to learn about GPO, which I find fascinating, addictive and time consuming, but what better way to use up those spare hours!

Great work! I am an admirer of Haydn's many symphonies, especially because his stylish elegance echoed through his pupil Mozart. This is definitely one of his more popular symphonies, I enjoyed it very much. Great work with it! Papa Haydn would be proud.
