What's the difference between UAD and TDM?

Not being a sound engineer, I have a question.
I've been taking a serious look at the Cambridge EQ plugin and i noticed the two formats.
Could someone tell me what the difference is, between UAD and TDM?

UAD and TDM are different hardware platforms. UAD runs on the Universal Audio UAD-1 card, which uses a video graphics processing chip. TDM runs on ProTools cards which use Motorola DSP chips...

It's sort of like comparing an intel chip to a powerpc chip...

The UAD-1 is fabulous. The compressors are amazing and the Pultec EQ will have you forgetting about the Cambridge (which is very nice). If you already have a TDM set up then that's obviously what you would get.Otherwise, just get the UAD-1 card - or - get 2 like I did
