A word to the wise before spending your dough...
TRILOGY and ATMOSPHERE *CANNOT EVER* PLAY ON TIME IN NUENDO UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, nor in Cubase SX if the software is set to the default output, "Multimedia ASIO" driver.
The notes (sounds) are both offset (delayed) and truncated. THERE IS NO WORKAROUND in Nuendo.
Higher buffer settings reveal *greater* offset and truncation, but Trilogy and Atmosphere can NEVER, EVER play on time in Nuendo or SX (when using the Multimedia ASIO driver).
Spectrasonics' position is that this is a Steinberg problem, even though this issue occurs in *ALL* UVI-based products.
Atmosphere and Trilogy work just fine in Nuendo here. Used them all last week on sessions.
However, we only use the asio drivers designed for the cards here. As strongly suggested often by the Nuendo manuals. Standard multimedia asio is a shake-your-head-not-a-great-choice-for-driver as per the notes to that effect outlined in the Nuendo manuals.
It only shows up in SX3 if you use the default driver: "Multimedia ASIO". If you use your sound card's ASIO driver in SX3, it works fine -- which is why I am stuck in SX3 for mixing right now. Nuendo always has the problem, no matter which driver you use so I am shut out of Nuendo for the moment.
When I tested SX2, I didn't get around to trying the Multimedia ASIO driver, but it worked fine on my regular sound card driver.
