    Question Moscow Recording.

I continue to receive this from Moscow. Anyone have any experience or ever had this type of offer sent to them? I figure I would ask before I Russian to anything.

    Dear Michael,

    Thank you for the response.

We could hire any quantity of musicians according to your
scores (full orchestra, string ensemble, choir etc).
The budget depends on the quantity of sessions & musicians.

If your budget is limited, you may not travel to Moscow,
the Orchestra and its Chief conductor are quite experienced
to record everything in its best.

Please feel free to write back with any questions, ideas,
    recording projects you may have.

    Sincerely,
    Styxx

You don't mention which orchestra it is? Is it the MSO?
I recorded with them a few years ago and was pretty impressed.

They are not filmscore musicians; they are a classically trained musicians that play all week in various orchestras. Their skill in general is quite high, and the space I recorded in was great; a little bit like abbey road in terms of setup. Huge wooden hall with good acoustics, seperate monitoring room with an SSL desk; on my session we recorded to two tascam da-88's though they might have Protools now.
I've also recorded with the Prague Philharmonic; those are better players with better instruments but I wasn't too impressed with the recording studio (smecky).
    So, to recap:
Moscow: better sounding hall, bigger, good recording path
Prague: better players, more affinity with filmwork, pretty good recording path, studio space not so great. Great conductor.

Next time I get a budget to record I would probably go to prague again, but see if I could record in a different studio dependent on the orchestra size.

So, if you're interested in Moscow and this email is indeed from the MSO, see if you can get into contact with Marina Levine. She was my contractor there when I recorded there, and did a good job.

    Cheers,

    Joris
