    Cool Stuff: Harmonics Animated

Ever wanted to see a graphical depiction of the harmonic series? You can with the Whitney Music Box.

The Whitney Music Box is a flash animation showing the relationship between chromatics, harmonics, and even primes and non-primes. It sounds as cool as it looks! From the author's site: "a musical realization of the motion graphics of john whitney as described in his book 'digital harmony'"

    Music box variations:
    var. 0 - chromatic - 48 tines
    var. 1 - harmonics of 55hz
    var. 2 - harmonics of 20hz
    var. 3 - harmonics of 48hz, reversed
    var. 4 - harmonics of 48hz, palindrome
    var. 5 - chromatic - 88 tines
var. 6 - microtones - 48 tones in one octave
    var. 7 - harmonics - 120 tines, reversed
    var. 8 - chromatic - 88 organ pipes, rev.
    var. 9 - chromatic - 88 bars, rev.
    var. 10 - chromatic - 64 pipe cyrpto calliope
    var. 11 - minute waltz - 60 keys, 60 seconds
var. 12 - chromatic - prime numbers only
    var. 13 - chromatic - non-primes only

I love this kind of thing, as useless as it may be. Sort of inspires me to build some more things in Reaktor.

I found the harmonics of 20Hz very deeply moving.

    My favourite was...chromatic - non-primes only.
A real singalong number in a Timothy-Leary-Merry-Prankster type way.

Hmm, the Fibonaci Series comes into play, very intersting how mathematical the series is and it is explained by a natural sequence occuring in nature - I Love Sunflowers!

Awesome... quite mesmerizing. It hypnotized me for a few minutes.
