    "a balloon on the breeze"

    another airy little woodwind quintet...

    a balloon on the breeze

I'll probably pair this up with my other little ditty and maybe make a little suite out of it. All these melodies were originally written at the piano and I first thought they'd be too pianistic to translate to other ensembles. But the woodwind quintet has wonderful colors and it is lots of fun to explore them with GPO!

    Hope you enjoy!

A lovely piece, David -- and a fine job in transitioning
    it to woodwinds.

Color and blend are very astutely handled in this; very
nice job in the orchestration of it.

Nice one, Dave. Your balloon really soared, in my opinion. I like your work!

    David,
Very nice "airy" piece. The melodies were captivating and coloring well handled. The reverb though, was particularly striking as it sounded to me like real players in a real space. Well done.

    David,

I love this tune. It perfectly fits to wood winds. Fantastic blend of nostalgia, melancholy and sweetness.

Very nice piece. I love how it floats listlessly. Hearing so much wonderful new chamber music recently is very inspiring!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It's a pleasure and an honor to share with all of you.

To answer a question above... I'm pretty sure I just used the Ambience Reverb Ballroom preset. Sometimes I mess with the wet/dry mix a bit but it's pretty much the stock setting. I'll often tweak the final mix with a little EQ and Normalization, but that's about it. GPO takes care of the rest if I've written carefully in Finale (i.e., lots of hairpins)...
