Dark Stairs in a Strange City --- [JABB, AltoFlute]

Dark Stairs in a Strange City ---

    http://www.sibeliusmusic.com/cgi-bin...?scoreid=62954

Musical Blog for the Week of January 16, 2005 Anno Domini.
A musical Haiku in 12/8 time divided 3+2+2+3+2 instead of the traditional 3+3+3+3 division. For a quartet of Alto Flute, Guitar, Bass and Drums.

MP3 created with JABB, I am still learning Sonar and the whole mixing thing, so I am sure there are many things that could be fixed and improved.

    Thank you,

    Ed

PS: The score and the MP3 file are both accessible at the above link, if you do not have the scorch plug in do not worry you only need that to see the score you should be able to access the MP3 file without it.

    Like the handling of meter in this, Ed -- works great;
and it takes skill to do that without sounding strained,
    keeping it moving and flowing.

Cool piece, too! The gutsy fluttertongue in the alto,
the arabesque lines, the clear punctuation... very
effective, atmospheric writing in this, and a fine job
    on the mix, as well.

But I have to complain, again, Ed, sorry: more!
I want more! As I listen to this, it seems to me to
be held in play with its own ingenious tension,
asking to break out into further development...

    My best,

Well, Ed, I have already commented on this elsewhere, but I want folks here to know that I think it is a pretty darn good piece of music, particularly the rhythm and the non-invasive percussion.

Hi, really enjoyed this work... Like the guitar melody over the soft percussion. The music definitely paints the title.. creates a nice mysterious mood...
    Please post more

    Ed,

Very nicely done. The uneven tempo kept me off balance while I listened to the breathy flute and guitar. It was a nice effect.
