My wife is an elementary school music teacher (a great one!), and I quite often write all or most of the music for her programs, along with the script. This song (The Tropical Island Way) is from a program I wrote for her 3rd-graders last year, about visiting a remote tropical island devoid of all our usual techno toys (please pay no attention to the demo vocalist).
Although I have to keep the music and lyrics very simple and repetitive for these little ones, this is probably the most rewarding avenue I pursue with my music... thought I'd just share a little bit of it with everyone here.
The Garritan stuff I used: JABB soprano sax, bari sax (the JABB instrument I'm currently most in love with as evidenced by its overindulgent use here), tenor sax, trombone and trumpets (with some subtle "doits" here and there; fun!) -- kind of a semi-salsa band horn section. The string "sweetener" was done with GPO lush violins.

It's really great that you have an audiance such as your wife's class to write for. I have to imagine that the students enjoy your work as much as you do producing it.
Thank you for the kind comments. The kids really do feel special having the songs written especially for them, and they are very enthusiastic in their performance of them -- a great treat and honor for me. I especially get a kick out of meeting them on stage after the performance.

This is a delightful song. I'll have it whirling around in my head the rest of the day, lol. As Gary pointed out, your wife and her students are indeed fortunate to have you writing music just for them.
