What's the best virtual synth for electronica?

    Hi all,

I am looking for a couple of options for the best virtual synth to create dance, trance and electronica. Are there any "must haves?" Does anyone have any recommendations?

    Thanks,

    -Steve

Zebra2, Cameleon 5000, Xphrase (and Xpansions) will give you a full house.

Don't discount the Korg Legacy Collection, either. You can do crazy stuff in real time with the MS-20, and nice atmospheres with Wavestation. The Poly 6 provides solid analog beds, and when you layer them all together it gets pretty cool. With the distortion effects and such they provide it can go very old school and very new school.

Hi. Seeing that you used a plural. One might be the imposcar. Check it as well as the minimonsta at m-audio site JON

    reFX/Wizoo/Steinberg XPhraze - Xpansions are a must

    Arturia ARP2600V,
    Arturia Moog Modular V,
    Arturia CS-80V,
    Arturia minimoogV,
    Arturia ProphetV,

    or just get AnalogFactory

    Kjaerhus Audio Spectra

Steinberg Groove Agent 2 (you gotta have a range of killer trance grooves)

Bornemark Broomstick Bass (same for that monotonous bass, minus the monotony, or course)

iZotope effects (especially the latest updates to Trash and Spectron, which include tempo sync controls for a bunch of their spectral and time-based effects)

If you're after the harder sounds, try these two:

    ReFX Vanguard
great for dance-oriented tracks; easy to gate and arpeggiate your way to some wonderful sounds.. and only $90

    and Z3TA+ from RGC:Audio
    http://www.rgcaudio.com/

Both have demos available to download at their respective sites.

PSP Vapor in Kontakt 2 is another option. You can swap the filters, add step generators, and automate just about any parameter. Sure it's samples but I feel that most peoples complaints were with the lack of automation in the included Kompakt player. It can be a beast when treated properly. And with the "Bank" feature in Kontakt 2 program changes work now.
