I've used firefox for the past few years and I am very happy with it. I've never tested it side-by-side with IE, but it SEEMS to be:

    -Leaner, faster, more stable
-More customizable (lots of extensions/plugins for adding functionality)
-Less virus-prone (fewer hackers are trying to exploit its weaknesses)
-More features (tabbed browsing, built-in customizable searchbar, etc.).

I have never looked back... Check out the list of extensions to get an idea of how you can add to / customize it.

Plus, you can now get PORTABLE firebird to install on your thumbdrive / flash drive if you have one. This way you can carry all of your bookmarks, settings, extensions, etc. with you to use on someone else's computer without leaving any traces on their system. www.portableapps.com

Firefox is the way to go. Only time I use Internet Explorer nowadays is to download Firefox.

FireFox is terrific. (Incidentally, I also like and use Thunderbird -- Mozilla's email POP client sister to FireFox).

...clean, smooth, fast -- and not tied into Windows like a parasite.

Firefox is mostly IE plus some neat Opera features. Why not get the real thing, Opera?

I've seen Firefox become corrupted and unremovable from a PC ...
i.e. it could have been removed with a pair of virtual tweezers and a magnifying glass ... but easier to just wipe the OS and start over.

I've been a long-time (read: years) Opera user and became increasingly disgusted with them bloating up the browser with unneeded stuff. Oh, and the many, many crashes... Around Opera 7.X I've had enough of it.

After switching to Firefox, I am now quite happy. However the newest Opera is good as a secondary browser for me.

Don't forget that you can extend Firefoxes possibilities with countless extensions. In fact, many users develop an extension fetish as time goes by... Soooo many useful functions.
