I might be interested for another license, but Tascam are selling it at $129, or about 100 Euros.

In the U.S., there is a retailer who purchased a lot of Tascam "left-over" inventory (Tascam effectively sold off nearly all inventory they had in their webstore).

This retailer (ScitScat) is selling some Giga products at very low prices:

    -- $35: GigaStudio 3 Ensemble

    -- $100: GigaPulse VST

He also has the Tascam Giga Library inventory on sale on eBay (sample libs Tascam were selling at their webstore):

Hmm, is this maybe a bad omen for the continued development of Gigastudio after GVI comes out? Can anyone think of another reason?

Mind you, I notice that both here and with Tascam themselves, the huge discounts apply to Ensemble but not to Orchestra. Maybe it's more accurate to predict that they will simplify the Gigastudio product line, maintaining just Orchestra for those that want the most powerful and efficient solution on dedicated PCs, and introducing GVI to effectively replace Solo and Ensemble, with the added benefit of more streamlined operation in a VST environment.

Perhaps this comment from Larry Seyer himself, made over in the learngigastudio.com forum (have you all signed up yet?), will put some of your initial "omen" fears to rest, as it suggests that TASCAM is, indeed, looking to phase out its smaller versions in order to focus on GS3/4 and GVI:

We have some new libs coming out, but are waiting for GS4 and the GVI...
GigaStudio will be far more likely to thrive and grow if its more vocal users (i.e., the ones who type about it publicly in forums as well as the ones who use it in commercially relevant contexts) focus more on the interesting music they create with it, and less trying to prognosticate its demise...

I wouldn't necessarily read anything into the discounting of GS3 Ensemble and GigaPulse VST. I assume they ARE trying to simplify their product line (less code to manage).

Regarding the Tascam store giga libraries, I never thought that was a great idea in the first place. There are so many on-line retailers that sell sample libraries, the Tascam online store selling giga libs at full retail prices didn't make sense.

Also, the Tascam Online store interface is terrible. I would suggest they only use the store for Giga product upgrades.

Re: GS3 Ensemble Licenses for Sale

    Hello all,

i aggree with you but several month ago i purcased mine at a much higher price. Some may say "your fault" but i noticed that more and more companies jump from one discount to the next.

We buy a product and try to make it stable. After a month or two suddenly there's another "new" product telling us to be "better" aso. With software products its not that bad, we may keep our PC's but its hard for the "hardware guys" who bought a "super trooper machine" only to find out that it is "out of fashion".

We do a lot of live gigging. There's no need for BSODs IRQLs or the 200th re-registering at tascams website (online on stage ?).

Yesterday we also sold our whole Digidesign Protools environment (Same story).

We changed to Abletons Live (stable as a Rock, works with nearly every soundcard, no GSIF no EW.sys). There's a sampler also in Live 6.

    Regards from Martin
