many things -- some with regret, some not -- as I look out over the

The orchestra in this is, as in much I do, handled much
like a group of soloists, less traditionally, more of a chamber
music approach to it.
Thank you for the kindness of your comments, Roberto.

Ah, home at last - time to pour a glass of claret and enjoy some wonderful music!Originally Posted by etLux
David, this is a great listen. There's so much going on here to keep the attention without being cluttered or over busy. I love the sense of transparency and clarity - and the white space that shows up in the score! Gorgeous flute writing (especially around bar 79) and I like the way the strings support rather than dominate.

Yes, as others have said, you certainly have a distinct unique style.Great work, as usual I enjoyed your orchestration. Thanks for providing the score, it's always nice to follow along.

"serious music" ... as if the rest of us are just kidding
David, the coherent and fluid language of your last works is improving peice after piece. It seems evolving to an euphonic but actual and rich modern style.
Are you just following ideas and colours, or did you create some musical structure (melodic, harmonic or formal) to support it?
I expect that the love for rapsodic and contrasting writing of your first works, and the actual research for more continous flow, may finally blend in a smooth balanced but episodic great work...you are already composing it...aren't you?![]()

Beautiful -- and I enjoyed following the score -- you make it look easy!
Your music always has a fresh *crispness* too it. I picture a glimmer of light dancing around on the floor as it shines through swaying tree branches on a lazy sunday afternoon. Or a leaf caught in the wind, sometimes falling, sometimes soaring, sometimes swirling. Clear and fresh music for when the air is just beginning to smell like autumn.
Excellent work, I look forward to the next one!

David,
Very nicely done. A great diversity of expressions and emotions let out here in form and color. Some very interesting instrumentation and solos throughout.
