    Greetings,

    Aleksandar
Thank you so much for the kind words, Aleksandar!

You know, your comment about "unexplored spaces
of the subconscious" touches on an area I often ponder.
Where does music arise, where does it "come from"?
All of us who write know the matters of craft -- that
is just mechanics. But the underlying material and
substance? For me -- and for many others -- it seems
almost as though it is not mine at all, but writes
    itself from some other source.

    My best,

Yes David, I feel the same way about the process of creation. Joe Zawinul once said that the music he creates is not coming from within hem, but is just passing through him. It seems that the creator needs to “open” himself and to receive the transmission wherever it comes from.

    Best regards,

    Aleksandar

Well, David, I must say this is really an amazing piece; another in a long line. To add to the currently eight pages of fawning praise, I will say this is wonderfully written and both intellectually interesting, and accessible. Your feeling for this style of music is right on. You keep setting the bar higher and higher.

Listening to these two pieces has me wondering. I've dabbled in electronic music a little recently and I am attracted to the continuous sound (pitch) ability of a synth. Many people have discussed this often: that composing with the chromatic scale is like painting with discrete cubes. I feel this limitation now and I've got several notions to overcome it but still remain in the standard orchestra setting. These two pieces seem, albeit perhaps unkowingly, heading in such a direction (but with different means). I wonder if this is conscious or not on your part.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the listen and the kind words, my friend.

I found your further comments of much interest... I think I follow
what you're saying, about the limitations of the chromatic scale.
Obviously, Western music has experimented quite a bit with other
alternatives (quarter tones, etc.); and Eastern music natively
embraces richer and often differently based scales and approaches.

Perhaps, though, your concern is also harmony and tonality? Even
with Western chromatic scales; to me -- there is still endless ground
    there, begging to be explored.

To your question, my own handling of it, yes; it is a very conscious
exploration of just that untapped potential. But at the same time,
I feel it is absolutely essential to maintain a solid connection to the
hundreds of years of Western musical tradition -- if one does not
do so, then the listener is left asea, without a basis upon which to
make sense of what he or she is hearing.

Historically, Western music has developed by expansion; by building
on and adding to that which has come before. And in my writing
I am no different... that is exactly what I intend and attempt.

Whether I am successful in this or not, I cannot say. Listeners
and history decided such things, not me; but I believe it is a solid,
    sensible, guiding principle.

Hey Josh! Great to see you here; and thanks for the listen.

Thanks for the good word that it's me...lol (I often wonder).
If you find your path back this way, your comments always
    interest me.

Hope we see you 'round these parts more often!

Joe Zawinul may be onto something... not that I have not thought
    similarly, myself, Aleksandar.

Though I do not have a "mystical" bent, I do wonder sometimes if
the process of composition is not personal creation but, rather, the
ability to listen within and hear elements others may not -- and then
    translate them to the page.

Perhaps we, as "writers", are just scribes for voice of the cosmos...

It only goes on to eight pages because I'm so long-winded... rofl.

That, and when people spend the time to both listen and comment,
it would seem to me only good manners to respond to each one
    personally. (If there were postage involved I might think differently;
but electrons are basically free in this context.)

In any event, thank you so much for the kind comments. When you
say the music is both "intellectually interesting" and yet "accessible",
my friend, you hit upon one of my personal holy grails... something
I try hard to achieve, but I am never sure that I do!

    Thanks for that especially.

I agree Dave. Can’t add much to what you’ve said.

    Hi David,

Finally decided to write this review for you after having listened to it for about 10 times.

This sometimes impressionistic woolgathering of yours is very pleasant to listen to! The calmness and control of the whole orchestra is astonishing with its well-spiced and sophisticated percussion that you use with utter care!

Your glissandis almost appear like in a Ravi Shankar - Raga... the way they appear is a part of your personal style!

This supreme calmness reminds me of "Gurre Lieder"... I only mean the calmness, not the tones or musical style

Thanks David! I found your piece while digging deep in the archive
    I said I listened 10 times! I lied... I listened 12 times

    Regards,

    Fredrik
