    Elegy for Trumpet and Orchestra

Here is an earlier work I posted for Piano and Trumpet. I have taken the piano score and transcribed a complete orchestral accompaniment for the the trumpet solo.

    Elegy for Trumpet and Orchestra

    I hope you enjoy it.

    Nice job on this, William.

As you know, I liked the intimacy and feel of the piano
version, and felt it was quite successful in that form.

However, the orchestral version likewise hath charms!

One thought I had while listening to this -- and it's
just my own "feel" given the initial piano version -- is
perhaps use of harp or even pitched percussion to
lighten texture on some of the runs and give the trumpet
    back more of the game.

I hope you get this performed, William; a most worthwhile
piece, both the piano version and the orchestral version.

    My best,

Hi William, Great job. I first noticed the control over the trumpet dynamics; good work on that... The quick wind passages give a sense if urgency or momentum... there where also some uplifting, in mood, places in this piece; a good balance for a traditional melancholy work... Even the subtle use of percussion was well thought out... I really enjoyed this and hope you get to hear it performed live soon...

Interesting thoughts, I will look into applying them to this version. When I wrote it I was thinking of the orchestra I perform with and it's available instrumentation (we have to pay extra fro the harpist, so it becomes a budget thing!)

    Thanks for listening.

Thanks Michael, I really appreciate your comments. I have become more 'finicky' about dynamics since I started using Finale with GPO. Now I don't leave anything up to the performer. I write it all in.

    Thanks for listening.
