Forgive if this seems like a simple question, but I really don't know much about the particular subject....
I have an HP Pavilion dv1000 notebook, on which I run all of my virtual instruments/synths (garritan libraries, toontrack EZ drummer, reason, NI guitar rig 2) and I have quite a lot of problems with latency.
It wasn't a big problem before, because I was doing more programming than live playing, but now that I've got the GR2 that's all going to change.
The lowest I can get it right now is 7 ms, but that seems to tax the poop out out of my computer, causing frequent dropouts and various unpleasant sorts of noises within the GR2 program. It's more comfortable at above 10 ms.
So my question is; if I bought a PCMCIA sound card, say perhaps
would that help with my latency problems? Is that what these things do? I honestly do not know.
By the way, I hardly ever run more than one of these programs at a time, because of the problems I've mentioned, so I know that's not my problem.
Thanks for any help you can give.
