    Sussex Carol

Here is an arrangment by Nigel Horne (www.bandsman.co.uk) on the traditional Sussex Carol set here for Brass Band. The theme, often a solo voice of brass, is underlaid by a rich moving harmoney.

Instruments from both the GPO and JABB libraries are employed in this work.

Thanks for posting this Gary - one of my favourite carols. The brass arrangement is fine, as is the rendition - good work here. Which JABB instruments did you use?

    Thumbs up Re: Sussex Carol

    Hi Gary,

    nice writing!

Maybe you shouldn't use F or FF patches of GPO because that sounded harsh in my ears. But the arrangement is well done and would be pleasure to listen to it performed with live players.

    Keep up the good work!
    Sincerely,
    Falcon1

    Eugene,

I used the Flugel and Bass Trombone. The rest were GPO instruments.

I am not sure what you mean by F or FF patches. Do you mean dynamic markings?

    Re: Sussex Carol

It sounds very nice to me.

Falcon 1 mentioned a harshness with the louder notes but I think it's fine the way it is. It could be the first two notes with the trumpets. You could pull them back a little with some reverb for a softer sound which gets into studio trickery.

I guess it's just a matter of personal taste.

    Tastes fine to me.

    Hi Phil,

After Mr. Horne heard the rendering he was thinking it might be too abrupt of an opening. But I agree, other than that point I think it sounds fine as well.

I am glad that you liked it otherwise.

Another fine effort - and great fun too! Nice key change part way through and some rich harmonies. Works well for brass band. Thx Gary.

    Regards, Graham
