Great job, DPDan! I purchased Strad 2 the day it was announced. Thanks to demos like this and "For Claire", I'm looking forward to using more and more everyday!

Sorry but the MIDI file is not available. We are considering making a study of the Betthoven and perhaps then we can provide a file.

Wow, this sounds awesome! The Strad seems to add so much realism to the piece.

    Hi Dan,

So busy lately, I unfortunately have to pick and choose just a few things to listen to from our forum... BUT, I've listened to the first bit of this, and will finish this weekend when things FINALLY calm down for me. What I've heard so far (your last remix) is, of course, first-rate, fantastic stuff! Great musicianship as usual....

(I'll comment further when I listen to the entire work -- really looking forward to the pleasure of doing so)

Re: The Concertmaster in a Symphonic Mix - Strad 2 and Beethoven's 5th

I agree with Gary about the concertmaster being such an integral part of the violin section sound. I always try my best to do whatever it takes to make my mockups sound as real as possible. I never have liked the term "mockup"

I think most people only get to hear orchestral music through a recorded medium like a CD, most people hear classical type music in commercials on TV and radio, and that is the extent of their experience with this type of music. Even for us die hard music lovers, we seldom get to hear a real professional orchestra in real life. Call your local Symphony and get a few tickets and go, you will never forget it.

There are a variety of ways to record an actual orchestra, and I believe most engineers try their best to capture every nuance of the performance including the acoustics of the concert hall. Regardless of the microphones and other recording equipment used, there will always be this seemingly magical sound as the first chair or Concertmasters' violin ebbs and flows with the other violins. It is inevitable that sometimes the sound of that one small violin manages to cut through everything else at the moment, and we get a first row seat to hear exactly what is going on in the violin section. I have read that the Stradivarius violin is known for it's ability to cut through when needed.

So, I am not trying to sound like a salesman here, trying to convince you all to order this Garritan Solo Strad Violin, but take it from me, you can not believe how much more real your "mockups" will sound by adding this to the mix. It's just wonderful!

James, thanks alot for listening, and for the very nice compliments.

Craig, I agree, it is amazing how much more the Strad adds.
PM me sometime, I want to talk to you about Altiverb.

Thank you both, and thank you Gary for this wonderful opportunity.
    Long live Beethoven's 5th!!!!!

Thumbs up Re: The Concertmaster in a Symphonic Mix - Strad 2 and Beethoven's 5th

    Absolutely gorgeous, Dan.

Thanks for the advise to get a ticket and go to a symphony, I'm embarrased to say how long it has been.

You have captured the realism very well, amazingly well!!

Re: Beethoven's 5th with GPO and Stradi

Very nice job, DPDAN. I usually blend a solo violin in with the section
violins, but maybe the Strad would make things even better.

    - klassical

p.s. I think you have a wrong note 119 measures after the oboe solo. It's
right after 5 bars of a Db major chord. The Cls, Bsns, and Horns add a little 'echo' at the end: F F F Ab. They should be in unison, but I'm hearing an extra note. Maybe a D? in the Eb horns? It's a little thing - just thought you might want to know.

    DPDAN:

Just AWESOME, Dan. I mean the speed of your tempi and clarity of your instruments is phenomenal. What an image you must have in your mind when crafting such beautiful realizations as this......a truer talent I have never been a witness to in audio production.

Thank you for this keepsake--a winning composition by an awesome composer and such a fine demo of both.

The Mighty Etlux thank you for stopping by to listen, I am always humbled greatly at your words. Thank you!

Valhalx, Bill, your comments got me teary eyed, thank you alot!

Gary Bic, awesome compliments, thank you for taking your time to listen!

JonRay, it's all good, you were just one of a few who mentioned it was too slow. I want it right, thank you!

Eugene, wow thanks for your words of encouragement too!

Haydn, I bow to your talent and kind words!

DKO22, WOW from Scotland, I appreciate your advice, thanks alot!

Chinmayl, Keep an eye out for this to be posted as Mr. Garritan has mentioned. That is a good idea.

DDW, Danny, you are so nice, thank you too!

Klassical, I want it to be right, so, since I don't read music yet (50 years of age) I just started music theory. I listened again, and I did hear this harmony you are talking about, it was bassoons. It always struck me as odd as I was working on this, that Beethoven would try to spice this up with two part harmony. But, because the harmony made sense, it didn't bother me. I suppose you are correct. It would seem more musicological to me to repeat the four note theme in unison as you said, more majestic that way. Thank you for listening and pointing this out. Of course the links have been replaced with this correction as well as some more nitpicking with some excessive note velocities. The links in Gary Garritans post about the concertmaster will be updated later today, (10-17-06) thanks again.
for your convenience here is the updated link.

    Jack, my good friend
I want to take this opportunity to thank Jack (Rhap2) for his friendship over the phone the last year or two. Jack knows alot about Ludwig, and he won't tell me hold old he really is but, from the sound of his voice he is young at heart, and that's what matters. We talk about Digital Performer, Mac computers, Windows PCs, RME soundcards, dotted eighth notes, scooters, Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice (light of course), our love for dogs, and certainly the appreciation we have for Gary Garritan, his wife and his products.

Thank you Jack for your very generous compliments always.

    Thanks everyone!
    Time to hit the hay
