Topic: Silent Night

    Silent Night (plus bonus track)

It's been a while since I've posted anything. Allow me to rectify this.

Here's my version of "Silent Night" for solo violin, flute, handbells, 2 harps, and strings. (This will be on the GPO Christmas CD, but I just posted it to my website if you want a preview!)

The solo violin is the GSSV 2 Lyrical violin. Everything else is GPO.

BTW, this isn't GPO, but here's my version of "Fum, Fum, Fum" for voice and piano. Consider it a free bonus track!

(This will be on my soon-to-be released Christmas CD. More info later!)

Dan, this is lovely -- in its delicacy and quiet warmth,
you've done better justice to this venerable standard
than I've heard in quite a long, long while.

    Just -- beautiful...

With applause (quietly, though; not to break the mood),

I'll second David's motion and add that you have done a magnificent job with the instruments you assigned to this project. They definitely create a significant quiet mood and transform one into the Spirit of the Christmas Season with all of its glory and sanctity.

    Thanks for posting this......

    Hi Dan,

With great feeling, I always love your arrangements Dan.
I always like to *bump* your Shenandoah one of my all time favorite

It is one of the songs that convinced me to buy GPO in April of 2004.

Beautiful - I was working on a setting of this, myself, and now doubt I'll post it...

Hey, you own this! It will make a great track on the Christmas CD.

    Hi Dan,

very beautiful arrangement of the most famous carols of them all. If I were gona nit picking I would say that it were too much on the safe side, would be interesting to have more adventures harmony or having some Forte prelude before the "Silence".

The bells in the last verse were very nice touch!

Wow, Dan! Handbells, harps, flute, strings... this is just perfect. A beautiful rendition of Silent Night... calm, relaxing, subtle... wonderfully rendered. Bravo!

    Re: Silent Night

    Thanks, everyone.

Originally I thought of using celesta, but something made me wonder how it would sound with handbells, so I plugged them in and decided to keep them.

It still sounds good with celesta, though. I'll probably publish the arrangement next year and make it so that it's playable with either.
