Well I thought I would pass on a link that may show a very small portion of how the Theory of Rhythm is used. The Theory of Rhythm is the basis of the System all other aspects are built on it.

I am back just seeing if anyone had a chance to look at Kyles's description of Mikel Rouse's piece.
Also I can answer any questions regarding the system that you may have.

    Phil,

How can the rest of us get access to this additional information, the texts used for the certification courses way back when? It sounds intriguing, but since its top secret for most of us...I have to classify it as voodoo.

Sorry for the neg vibe. I own all the Schillinger books and plan to study them eventually when I have time. I read the section on theory of rythmn. Took me a WHILE to grok it. The books definitely feel like stuff is missing to give me the big picture that my right brain needs to utlize it. Anyway, if this info is out there, please tell us how and where we can get it.

    Thanks

Not taken negative at all. I know your frustration totally.
There is a presence on the web that thinks that there superior intelligence can gleen the essence of what Joseph was getting at.
This System has been taught by many schools in Boston, New York City, Colorado, Ohio, Hawaii. Coral Gables Florida, and Norway. When Carl Fischer published these books they knew that the books did not stand on there own. I have talked extensively to students/teachers that attest to this fact. So CF set up a promotion of the System lead by Merle Montgomery. She visted these schools and also set up a certification examination system. First a partial certification which was a test on the first book and the accredited teacher certification which was a test on the whole system. There are hundreds of students/teachers that had taken these tests.
My research has been very extensive finding archives getting permissions and paying for copies of these materials. Ned Quist's article Reconstructing... is a finding guide for most of this material though still not complete.
I will be starting to teach soon. I have combined the teachings of Berk, Cox Schramm, Benda into easy chunks.
But I am not promoting this at this point you can get started by requesting Richard Benda's series from the International Musician late 50's 21 issues on the System. In my estimation he taught the Special Theory of Harmony better than most.
There were no texts other than the books but I am looking into some books R. Schramm may have written and used while he taught at NYU. These materials are in the form of handouts and syllibii
Regarding Theory of Rhythm once people get to chapter 7 and 8 they get lost. The info is unclear and not set up in an easy to learn manner. This was clearified by the teachers in their own ways.
    Hope this is some help.
