BST - You've Made Me So Very Happy

Here's another Blood, Sweat & Tears number - You've Made Me So Very Happy: http://members.cox.net/jimmyortner/Happy.mp3

Brass and most of the drums are from JABB. Highhat and toms are from DKFS. Organ and Electric Piano are from the Roland XP-30 synth. Vocals, bass and guitar are real. I also layered a real trumpet which I attempted to play (not very well).

    Enjoy!

Same here- I want to hear this! (Btw I thought I was smart for a second- I compared the URL to the one for Bohemian Rhapsody and changed it from jimmyortner to jamesortner, but that didn't work )

I thought I was even cleverer, and tried the root (teresa) from the previous BST and Chicago links<G>...

    Fred,

You almost had it! It should have been jimmyortner instead of JimmyOrtner. I've fixed the link.

My cable company only gives 10 MB of web space per email address. So I have all sorts of emails with 10 MB spaces which gives me 70MB of space as we can have up to 7 email addresses. One of these days I'll have to give up some space to the kids though.

The link worked - What a great old song!

A very faithful rendition - the weakest link for me was the harmon mute solo behind the 2nd verse - not your fault, of course.

Loved the organ breakdown bit (panned left).
Also the organ at the end - I guess I just like organ!

I might suggest some volume rides (filter, too if possible) in the brass - (ride each part individually) during the section bits, might give it the kind of realistic organic flavor your drum programming already has.

    Good work, Jim

BTW, I like your voice for this genre too!

    Regards,

    Jim

    Haydn,

That brought back a lot of memories, wow!

I'm really in awe of your drum programming. How much of it (if any) do you play in live?

Re: BST - You've Made Me So Very Happy

    Jeff,

About half the drum programming is played in live. I picked the parts off the original for this one. The fills I usually have to slow down!

    Jim,

I do ride the volume levels quite a bit in the brass. I always ride CC1 when recording all brass and woodwind parts. The BST version doesn't have too many volume changes and isn't a very dynamic.

Jim, I'm definitely becoming a fan of yours! And I love your sense of rhythm and your drum programming is fantastic, as usual... Great song!
