    How About This One?

This is a melody that never have done anything with an it's pretty different for me.

I wanted an educated opinion on it's potential if possible.

I would expand on it and arrange it for woodwinds and muted brass.

    Hello, Phil

I couldn't quite tell from how you put it in your post, but I'm pretty sure you mean this is a melody of yours which has been on the back burner, and now you're thinking of arranging it--yes?

It's a sweet tune, and because of both the chord progression and the melody, seems very derivative of pop music from the '50's and '60's. To my ears it's an old fashioned song that wants lyrics.

You want to arrange it for woodwinds and muted brass--Why not arrange it in a way to back a singer? Piano, strings, muted brass, bass and drums.

My fundamental reaction is that it's a piece to be sung. It would be lovely with some gentle love oriented lyrics.

    Re: How About This One?

Thanks for your input rbowser. You're correct about my intent.

Yes, it probably would work best as a sung song with lyrics. I have tried to write lyrics years ago but they always seemed to be just ok.

Now with the internet I could possibly hook up with someone with those clever skills.

I was planning on trying dueling melodies with the second verse which would be interesting if sung by a couple and also a lead in like Sinatra's I Have A Crush On You.

I'll probably do it instrumentally first for demo and then see what I can come up with.

You know, I can usually take it or leave it in regard to
lyrics, but I definitely go with rbowser on this: Phil,
this wants to be sung. It needs words.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

    Best,

    David,

Yes, it sure sounds like a song with lyrics doesn't it.

I'll have to see what Tim Rice is up to.
