    Orpheus Against the Sirens

    Hi all,

This is my first post and, after listening to the many enjoyable works offered here, I thought I might submit one of my own. It is a tone poem entitled "Orpheus Against the Sirens." http://www.thetheaterofthemind.com/7_Orpheus.mp3
It's based on a lesser-known myth about Orpheus' encounter with and defeat of the Sirens while journeying with Jason and the other Argonauts to find the Golden Fleece. Let me know what you think.

    Thanks, Daniel

    Welcome to the forum, Daniel!

Quite a heroic endeavor with which to introduce your
work to us, I must say.

Excellent use of percussion in this, and great control
of it; I also particularly like the vocal writing... a
journey of interest and surprises throughout.

Thanks for your warm words, David.

I've been listening to some of the works on your site, particularly "Lucifer and Gandhi." The blending of pizzicato strings, piano, and then winds at the beginning is really clever, with one group of sounds leading to and echoing the other. Your trumpet writing in this and your other pieces is also wonderful, not to mention the piano work. You may get this all the time, but there really is a kind of northeastern American feel to your writing.

    Best, Daniel
