    A couple Vocalises

Here are two of my works I recently completed just for fun. Everything is GPO except for the Symphonc Choir Ahhhs. I was feeling a little melancholy when I wrote them, so they tend to be a little grave. haha

Haha! Thanks for the comments. I would really not want to stay in the depression too long.

    Re: A couple Vocalises

My heavens, Jess, is there anything I can do to
    cheer you up?

Jokes aside, these are gorgeous, Jess. Maybe
a little too much room on them... and with Ray,
I'd be cautious of excessive ahhh-ness. I think,
however, that in a live setting with real voices?
    They are not overdone.

Now the writing, that's another matter. Deft,
understated, and subtle -- this is skillful work,
beautifully done, and especially in the second
    work, often deeply moving, Jess.

This is strong work with an able hand... but, of
course, I expect that, considering who's holding
    the pen.

Some of the most worthwhile listening I've done
today, Jess, I hope especially you will give
further attention to Endings... there is far more
still lurking within it, I think, than even you have
    yet discovered.

    My best,

I thought about switching to Oos, but that would seem cheesy to me. A lot of this is modeled after the vocalise sections in Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe and Debussy's La Mer. I do not want to take focus away from the notes and harmonies. Also, the choir is the featured element. I know in film music, for example, choir is sometimes used as a "synth pad", and I purposely envisioned doing something different.

Harmony and feel were strongly influenced by Debussy, Wagner, and even Mozart.

Thanks so much for listening and commenting!
