    WOW!
Congrats Gary on a great partnership! You really have all sorts of wonderful alliances forming.

I am sold if this will be as good as it looks. I was going to switch to Overture 4, but really am very comfy with Finale (I work VERY fast in Finale)
My only question is this: I know that Overture 4 will have sequencer-type EDITING. (i.e. clicking on a measure or measures will open up a little window where you can draw in the cc data, and edit all sorts of things) Will Finale 2006 have something like that as well?
I know it SORT of does anyway - with the MIDI tool, but it is flawed when doing it in layers (at least in 2004, only layer one will playback the edited cc data) and doesn't "draw." You have to enter in values from beginning to end - VERY time consuming.
Even if it doesn't let you "draw" in the cc data, can you go back and record just the CC data (i.e. mod wheel for dynamics) over the "track" of previously entered notes in real-time? That would be time saving as well.
And lastly, does ANYONE know if they have improved the speed for OSX users? I saw they did something to the redraw screen thing, is that what has been bogging us OS X users down all this time?

Thats my point. If FINALE got off their wazoo and made a great CC editor where you could DRAW in the cc data, it would round it off as a nice product for rendering...

Also, as I play with GPO and make my own ensembles, I need a way of HIDING tracks under a stave w/o resorting to layers or hidden staves.

For example, if I have a violin I secition made up of 5 solo violins, I'd love to have one single line of music, but have 5 individual tracks underneath that one stave with different panning, different MIDI edits off the same notes. Yeah I can fiddle with hidden and mirrored staves, and layers but its time consuming. Got to be a better way...but getting midi cc drawing would be great now that they have a good soundbase with GPO

This is interesting Robert, maybe it´s time to use HP now.

Can you clarify how I can make use of the coming GPO advanced and 2006?

Fantastic! The ideal partnership for me! I am going to pre-order ASAP.

Thank you all at Finalemusic and Garritan for providing this upgrade.

I guess it's a little too early to answer!... But you'll be kept posted when available.

    Best,

    Robert,

I have decided to resume my relationship with Finale based on what I saw in your description of your NEW HP.

Please allow me to add my contribution to the chorus in praise of the new Finale/GPO combination!!
The tutorial would be most welcome...I always enjoy knowing what ALL the functions are, but I usually do not, unfortunately, have time to enjoy the thrill of finding out on my own via experimentation.

    Wow, Congratulations!
I was looking over the new "Studio View"! This would be great in the classroom.

    Best,
    Robert

I pre-ordered the big band and intent to order GPO advanced. It would be nice to have those integrated with my Finale 2006 in the same seemless manner as the GPO lite sounds that are supplied with Finale 2006. At least, if it isn't at the onset, please work to integrate than at a later time.

    Thanks,

    David

    Robert,

Thanks for the overview of the GPO enhancements in Human Playback. Your contribution to this project has been invaluable. Your input has made for a much better product with seamless integration and what you have provided with Human Playback is nothing short of amazing.

Let's have a closer look at the HP prefs:

    * Activate GPO Support popup. It offers 3 choices, Never (=GM), Always, or Auto-Detect (default). Auto-detect means that you don't need to mess around with HP prefs when you switch from a GM-based file to a GPO-based file, for instance; it's all routed automatically.

    * Use Contr. #1 for Continuous Dynamics. This option was already in Finale 2005 but has been improved in several departments (for instance, in the extreme ranges ppp or fff).

    * Optimize Attacks. Was also in Fin2005, and also improved in Fin2006, including: fast staccato string/winds notes, slow pp string notes, sfz, etc.

    * Best Legato Effect Using Controller 64/68. This enables GPO Legato for slurs, trills, alternate tremolos, etc. You might ask why there is CC#68 here? Because in Finale GPO, legato mode is newly enabled like that, and no longer with CC#64. This works around the long-standing conflict with the piano sustain pedal in Kontatk player. However, existing GPO users can still use CC#64 for legato effect.

    * Use Unified Keyswitches. New to Fin 2006, there is a full support for Keyswitches in HP. "Unified Keyswitches" are new KS located at the first "-2" octave, from MIDI note 0 to 11. For instance, strings have exact same KS for all instruments in GPO Finale. Unchecking this option allow compability with GPO 2, though.

    * Support For String, harp and Brass techniques. This enables support for special instrument techniques using KS (or patch changes in GM). This is all automatically handled by HP based on the notation (as always in HP), and including: string tremolo, string pizz, string mutes (GPO full only), brass mutes (GPO full only), harp harmonics and étouffés, timpani and bass drum damped notes. An undocumented, bonus, feature is the fluttertongue for flute and piccolo (I will explain this later some day).

    * 1/2 tone Pitch Bend Range. GPO Finale has a pitch bend range of 12 semi-tones, fully taking of HP gliss and bend features. HP bend range can be adjusted for compatibility with GPO 2.

    * Humanize Rolls and Trills. Without getting too much into details, consequences on GPO are: realistic rolls for timpani, bass drum, snare/side drum, wind and string trills and tremolos, using various tricks, controllers, L/R hand alternation, etc.

I might also mention the fact that existing GPO 2 users will now be able to use the standard VST/AU version of GPO within Finale 2006, saving the patch settings along with the file. And loading patches with VST/AU is so much faster than with GPO Studio!

Generally speaking I have designed HP 2006 so that current GPO users may take advantage of all the new features, as far as possible.

Other than GPO stuff, there are really numerous general enhancements in HP in this release. I will list this later in greatest detail on this forum or on Finale's forum, perhaps in the form of a tutorial.

I hope this gives you a good overview on this part of the new toy!

    Robert
