Thumbs up Re: THE EMERGENCE OF TIME - Symphony Orchestra (Sosnowski)

    David,

wow. I',m back after a while of login malfunction, just in time to join the chorus of your supporters...;-))

But it's not a matter of "hirony" or simple friendly fairplay, believe me, I'm really impressed and fashinated by your composition: it is a complete well done piece of contemporary music.

In the past early samples I had some detail to discuss with you, due to little choice I didn't totally agree with or I didn't understand well.

in last compositions I simply enjoy every note, and every colour. No comments but: bravo.

Many thanks, my friend, and I'm pleased you made it by to
    listen to the final version.

I really need to listen a couple more times (and was waiting for the score - you know how I share your love of score study!).
Indeed! I imagine they could lock either of us away with a
box full of scores and we'd be happily occupied for months.

I have the luxury to hear some of David's works "in progress", as he kindly shares that process with some of his fellow composers (as do we with him on ours). It's always gratifying to hear the final result, however.
I appreciate your lending a listen during the writing process,
Jonathan. I'm really sorry this one bit off your left ear lobe
such as it did; but the corrective surgery should be complete,
    soon...

So many of your pieces defy an easy first-run-through analysis - your structure is not always apparent on the first hearing, but I find that with repeated listenings (and score at hand) I detect great cohesion, and often find your themes woven throughout a piece (and appearing in the oddest guises!). I appreciate that in a composer - some of my favorite compositions are those that do seemingly everything to a theme, always having thematic material present in some form or another, but not resorting to beating the listener over the head with it in an obvious manner... Such writing (when done well as you do it) sounds effortless, but in reality is nothing short of a royal pain to pull off.

    So, another...

    Bravo!

    ...for a job well-done!
Thank you, Jonathan. I am sure you know the high regard with which
I hold both your musical opinions and your musicianship -- such comments
from one of your caliber are deeply gratifying to me... and that you
recognize and appreciate the craftsmanship of the work genuinely makes
my day! Heck, I think it makes my whole month... lol.

    Always my best,

    David

First and foremost, Kenny, a very warm welcome to the forum!

To the best of my knowledge, and I really have looked, there is NO
other forum anything like the Garritan Listening Room... hundreds of
    composers, actively at work, constantly showing new compositions;
and the spirit of friendship, cooperation, civility, and help is perhaps
unparalleled on any forum of any kind.

I have said personally to Gary Garritan that this forum alone would
stand as a magnificent achievement, regardless of the wonderful tools
he and his colleagues make for us.

I recently started analyzing scores and trying to figure out what was going on with some of my favorite pieces.
Excellent! I'm practically a "broken record" around here on that, Kenny:
the study of score is the singlemost productive and important endeavor
of anyone who wishes to write (or even understand) music. You will
learn things that way that no teacher, no mentor, no classroom, no text-
    book can ever teach you.

I was delighted to see your page which included so many wonderful pieces of music and the scores included. What a great learning tool for a student like me to learn from.
Just a quick side note, but I've recently updated that so that all of
the pdf scores are printable versions.

I listened to "The Emergence of Time" and I really enjoyed it. I especially the percussion and the piano parts. My avorite part was the piano only chord at the end.
There's been some disagreement about that ending. The tally thus far
seems to be running around 50-50 for and against... thanks for being on
    my side... lol.

I look forward to reviewing the rest of your pieces. Thank you for sharing with others and providing a valuable tool for students to study your work.

    Sincerely,
    Kenny Long

Once again, welcome aboard, Kenny, and thanks for listening. I hope
    we'll see you here frequently.

    My best,

Smile Re: THE EMERGENCE OF TIME - Symphony Orchestra (Sosnowski)

    Hello David,
I know I am late into the game, however when I started listening to The Emergence of Time two weeks ago I immediately stopped listening due to the style of music it was written in. (And yes, this is a good thing!) The reason being that I wanted to give the piece the time and attention I believed it would deserve. To my (admittedly simple) mind, such music requires more attention than other stlyes. The complexity of interaction, development, etc. deserves full attention. So this morning I fired it up and I've now listened to Emergence multiple times.

There is one thing that wraps up this piece to me. The final piano note. It took me off guard, wrapped up all of the activity prior to it and faded into the future as time does. Amazing.

The quality of your programming is as high as your compositional skills. I have a great deal to learn by listening to your music. Thanks very much for sharing your work, it is truly inspirational!

Re: THE EMERGENCE OF TIME - Symphony Orchestra (Sosnowski)

    Forum:

A quick note to all my friends in the forum who were kind
enough to post on this piece...

I always answer each, personally; not only for sake of good
manners, but likewise because you so often bring up very
    interesting points of discussion.

Unfortunately a major server of mine went catastrophic over
the weekend, and I am presently buried up to my neck
untangling two dozen websites and getting them all up and
    running again.

For those of you who might have been unable to reach the
www.DavidSosnowski.com site, that was also down -- but
is now back up and should be stable again in a day or so.

I apologize for my delay in responding to some of the latter
posts, my friends, and I promise I will be catching up on them
    across the next several days!

    Always my best,

    David

This reminds me quite strongly in places of late Stravinsky(which I adore). Especially so, the ending--which although not a direct quote in any way--bears a striking ' gestalt ' resemblance to the ending of his Huxley Variations. I particularly enjoyed the contra clarinet writing. Nice stuff!!
