    Conversion: Kontakt to Giga?

Any luck converting Kontakt libraries to Gigastudio? Can it be done? I tried the extreme conversion program and it didn't work.

    John,

I am interested in this too. What library did you try?

A piano library in NI format, the Milan Steinway, still the best Steinway in my view, from the standpoint of realism. (The Ambient Black Grand coming in almost equal in many respects, but a totally different instrument, obviously).

    thanks john

In another thread someone had mentioned not having success converting the player Garritan used in GPO and was wondering if it was somehow different (altered) from its use in other libraries.

Maybe others will join in to find a solution?

I think GPO's samples are copy protected. There's no way (this side of illegal hacking) to convert a copy protected lib.

Giga's libs aren't copy protected. And that's a big advantage for users. Not only can we convert those libs depending on our needs, we can re-program them.

I have read about some out of tune samples in on of the EW libs. But because the samples are locked (some call it a ROMpler), the users couldn't tweak a workaround. In Giga you would just open the editor and adjust the tuning.

In fact, if there is a noise in a sample, you can even put the wave in an editor and apply noise reduction, EQ, trimming or whatever to fix the problem. But not if the lib is locked down.

No Giga lib is locked down.

    Thanks Jon

OK extranslator.com replied to my inquiry. They thought extreme converter should be able to translate the GPO and Miroslav Phiharmonik libraries if they were NOT 24 bit compressed files. I did not ask about locked files, nor did they mention them. So - it appears that we have to ask the library sources if the files are locked or 24 bit compressed before buying the library to convert it.

Does this help you in any way John Grant?

Anyone with additional information willing to round out the information?

    best

You can't convert any Kontakt libraries tied into a Kontakt player. They are protected. That's where Giga lost ground to Kontakt.

Extranslator will not bypass any copy protection. I just tried it.

Actually, there is a more or less legal way of converting protected Kontakt libraries. There was a thread explaining how on this forum some year ago. It got pulled not long after, so some parties obviously didn't feel comfortable with it. Still, it can be done without using any cracks
    Supermicro H8DCE, 2*285 Opterons, 16GB Ram, 3TB WD & Seagate drives, MSI 7600GS & XFX 6600GT, Emu 1820m, Thermaltake 750W PSU, watercooling by Zalman & Innovatek, Windows XP64 SP2, Cubase 4.1
