    JABB horns and RealSax horns

I just installed JABB after taking advantage of the holiday group buy (thanks Gary!). I decided to buy JABB as an advanced sketch pad, if you will, since I play most horns. I am very glad I did!

This is my first effort using JABB. I used Flugelhorn1, Alto1. Tenor 1 and Baritone1. I didn’t go crazy with controllers, but I did use mod wheel, of course, and some volume rides after rendering as audio. I’ll never be as much of a tweaker as OldBob or some of you other JABB experts. I need to practice my real horns!

These two very brief audio clips are the same except for replacing the JABB horns with RealSax ones.
    Other instruments:
    Drums are BFD.
    Bass is Trilogy.
    Piano is ArtVistaVirtual Grand.

    Without further ado:

Hey Jim that is a really solid start with JABB.
I suppose having the first clue what a sax sounds like, must be really helpful.

The JABB is a fantastic notepad for jotting down ideas, and testing arrangements.

I have been writing for horns for 30 years, so I have a rough idea of what I am doing, but working with JABB is a great way of testing out some borderline voicings/sonorities.
I think the quality of the sounds give you some great instantaneous feedback, about whether a more adventurous idea could work.

I hope you share a lot more of your JABB dabblings with us. It would be nice to hear a JABB section breaking in to a Live solo.

    regards Joe

Thanks Joe! Yes, I am totally with you on that. JABB is very easy to use, and I can see I will be using it often to test out arrangement ideas before replacing them with live horns. I'm using it as a VST plug in with Nuendo, BTW.

Just think if we had this tool back when we were starting out!

That's a good idea! I'll do that at some point.

That's a fine sound, Mr. Jim. You have a good feel for this sort of thing.

When are you going to finish it? Huh? When are you going to finish it? Huh? Huh?

Hi Larry and thank you! Now that you ask the question, I guess I should finish this sketch...hmm...OK then - good idea! I think I shall, my prolific friend!

Are you playing Flugel as well? If so, that's a rare double...

    Hi Journeyman,

Good call on that Steely Dan/Donald Fagan influence for this sketch! That was what I was going for, so I'm glad it was noticeable <whew!>

Yes, I play flugelhorn and trumpet, in addition to saxes and flutes (and pennywhistles!) Unusual double, true, but - fun!

    Jim,

I also love the Brecker Bros. "Out Of The Loop" style on your Hip Hop /RnB demo. I hope to one day avail myself of your services; well done.
