    Documentary on Bernard Herrmann

    Hi all!

This might not be the right place to post this. Sorry if so. I thought it might be of interest.

I'd like to draw your attention to an excellent 1992 TV documentary on Bernard Herrmann. For you who appreciate the work of this extraordinary movie composer, here are the links:

Thanks for the link. I'd seen this once before years ago, and it's very informative. There are lots of little hints about how Herrmann wrote his music.

    Hi,

I’m glad you like it. I enjoyed every segment of it. It is a rare opportunity to find such material on the net.

Here is 1989 Elwy Yost’s interview with Jerry Goldsmith.
Elwy Yost was the long-time host of TV Ontario's "Saturday Night at the Movies".

Jerry talks about his work on movie music. Very good material.

Thanks Aleksandar! I will definately be watching this soon. Hermann is one of my favourite soundtrack composers. I never get tired of listening to North by Northwest...very intricate textures which keep the main theme(which repeats quite often)interesting and never stale.
I think he is an influence on another of my favourites James Newton Howard...especially his work on Shyamalan's films. If you've never checked out The Village(featuring Hilary Hahn) or The Lady in the Water, do so. They are well worth the listen.

It is the same with me Orbit!

Herrmann’s music is always on my MP3 player. Benny influenced a lot of good young composers and made serial music closer to wide audience.

Howard Goodall made an excellent serial called “20th Century Greats” for English Channel4 television. Episode 3 is a documentary on Bernard Herrmann.

Thank you for the hint on James Newton Howard and his music, I’ll check it out.

    My regards,
