Cool "Pa" (ghost story / film short)

Hey, gang. Long time no post for me.

Thought I would share the final instalment of a sort of quadrilogy called "Dark Quarters".

This entry is called "Pa", which is a ghost story. Hope you enjoy. Comments welcome.

By all means, pop over to my website and have a listen to the other three segments.

Excellent, Steve--I have a predelection for enjoying music that combines synth tones with acoustic emulations like GPO, so your "Pa" is rather up my alley. You've made a constantly interesting piece here---Whew--listening again, and even got shivers a few times.

The transition to piano at 2:59 certainly is a sudden shift--First time through it didn't quite work for me. I've played that transition several times now, and the quick fade you've done on the thick textures before the piano actually works for me now--I can hear how you wanted a sudden gear change, and a slower cross fade wouldn't have made that happen.

First time I've heard your stuff, and it was a really good experience, thanks!

Thank you, Randy. Glad you enjoyed it.

The sudden shift actually works in the context of the story (film), too. At that transition, we are mean't to suddenly feel compassion for the ghost.

If you have time, listen to the other Dark Quarters cues, especially "Conflict of Desire", which I am personally most pleased with.

    Thanks again!

I wish I could see this in context. There are some really exciting sounds and passages - I just want to see what holds them all together.

Thanks Steve, I really enjoyed that. Kind of a wierd concept, but I think you've captured the mood of it extremely well, and now the disjointed bits make a lot of sense.

How did you do that sound as the ghost steps back from his son - was it granular synthesis, or samples?

    Thanks again, Pingu.

Yeah, all four of the Dark Quarters films were a bit "out there".

It was a sample, from one of the Sony libraries, I believe.

Some good soundscaping in this, Steve... with, even,
some fine musical moments along for the ride.

I hope we'll get a chance to see this cue working with
the film sometime. Some of the electronic effects and
colors... seems like they'd work very well punctuating
    screen action, and so on.

Thanks for the sneak peak, Steve.

I must say, this is quite effective, seen with the
    film!

The way the electronic bursts and effects work,
    synced with the ghost, etc.

Let us all know when this is available publically!

    My best,
