This is a piece for viola and piano. (Sorry for the name duplication, Randy, but it refers to mode rather than Gray, and besides, it probably came first.)
Anyhow, it's here:
Nice! I enjoyed your composition.
I according to your web site, it was written in 1959. You mention that it's a study for a beginning viola player. This is a very cool study. It's a very nice composition. I hope it stood the test of time for you!
Curious. Is this a live recording or is it a GPO (or some other software) rendering?? These very modest ears could not tell.
Thank you for sharing.
Music and humor are healthy for the soul.
Jack! You sure got MY attention, with that title!
--side note---I use the Dorian mode as a kind of musical in-joke in my show. At one point Dorian is off-stage and starts to play the piano. Before playing his song, he runs through the Dorian scale as a warm up.
And now, to YOUr music---I found this is a very satisfying piece. The mode really is a pleasant one, and the little tapestry you've woven with it is wonderful.
I see at the site you suggest it would be a good piece for a beginnng Viola player. Have you had students and/or teachers purchase it through that site? I'm always curious how people are doing with the various sites for posting and/or selling music.
Thanks for the very nice listen!
Thanks for listening, and for your comments.
It's all GPO - the Steinway piano, and the solo viola.Originally Posted by efiebke

I wrote this piece for a College student, who was just starting the viola, though she probably had some other musical background (I'm not sure). I've never made any money from it, although I think it has been occasionally played here and there. The Canadian Music Centre is a repository of scores (both in manuscript and published) that they loan out to interested parties. I've published a few things for which I've picked up a few dollars over the years. Unfortunately, I haven't written anything new for a long time.Originally Posted by rbowser-

I've tried a number of times to get this to play; without
success... sorry! It says "Ready". I hit the Play button
repeatedly. It briefly shows "Connecting to media..." --
but, then, nothing.
Is the file still there, Jack; or would there perhaps be a
directly mp3 link I might try?
All my best,
Hi David and Charlie,
There seems to be a problem on that site.
If you click here, I think you'll find it:
Thanks -- that worked. listening to your Ravel Pavane now...
And I really like your Polka Dots -- clever and great humour.
Thanks for listening, Charlie, and for your kind comments.
