Genesis without Peter Gabriel is not Genesis.

But if they play "Selling England by the pound" then why not ?

Funny, I grew up with the Phil Collins version of Genesis and was surprised when I later learned that Peter Gabriel was the original singer

'Course as a keyboard player I'd only be going to see Tony Banks anyway.

Between the Phil Collins version of Genesis and Genesis "head" Peter Gabriel, there are thousends of worlds for me.... .

The worst is that Phil tried to copy Peter.....

Thats funny, they sound nothinng alike in style or vocal quality to me. I do feel that they were like two seperate bands as well. I actually like them both, but Duke is my favorite album.

I have seen them live with both vocalist and they both put on a fantastic show. I am a big Tony Banks fan as well. He sounds like no one else.

    Cheers,

We could also say "Genesis without Phil Collins is not Genesis".
Or "Bill Clinton without Hilary is not Bill Clinton"

It's a chemistry thing. Like Beatles, Rolling Stones etc...

Yes, very good point Serge - they are very different bands, one with Peter and one with Phil - both execellent in my book .

That`s true, but I grew up with the Peter Gabriel version of Genesis, and I don`t like the songs that Phil covered with his vocal..... .

But I can speak only with my feelings about that

Ahh GC, I understand what you meant now.

You were referring to Phil covering the Peter Gabriel tunes. Yes, I can imagine that would be difficult as Peter has such a unique voice.

I thought you were saying the two singers sounds the same - now I understand.

    Cheers,

    Kenny,

In the last year I had Peter`s vocals on my mixer ( channel 1 ) and all I ever thought is: whow!

    He sings so marvelously good!
