    Viennese Zither sound needed urgently

    Hello everybody,

I'm very much hoping one of you can help me in finding a decent sampled Viennese Zither sound.

I'm talking an Anton Karas, Third Man-type zither, not a Chinese zither.

I need it urgently for an important job coming up.

Or, I guess any suggestions of viable alternatives which could be used would be equally welcome.

    Over to you....

    Hi Andrea,

glad to hear you're busy - check out http://www.boldersounds.com/ - they have Cymbalom and Hammered Dulcimers as I recall - was going to get myself but haven't had an appropriate project.

Just bought them both myself! Thanks!!

BTW you can download them so you can get cracking if you have a deadline..

The Bolder stuff is great, been using it for years, but you might want to check out this recent release from precisionsound:

    it's also downloadable

    all the best

Many thanks to both of you for the advice so far.

The bolder stuff does look great, thanks for that Barry.

Though for this particular job I think you may have found the zither I seek, Oliver. I have asked precision sound to email me an example of the zither on its own however (as its hard to tell otherwise) , but I think that the Alpine zither is probably most like the Viennese zither (if not one and the same?)

I will keep my fingers crossed it is indeed the one...

Wavelore has an American Zither - http://www.wavelore.com/.

I'm not sure how it sounds compared to a Viennese Zither, but the demos for this one don't sound bad at all (Recuerdos De La Alhambra in particular sounds really good). In fact I'm thinking about adding this to my list of libraries to get (and I wasn't even looking for a zither).

EDIT: ehhh, nevermind. I didn't realize it won't be released until June.

Try Precision Sounds, they have several instruments of that kind-all downloadable.

I can vouch for the quality of Precision Sounds samples. I haven't got the zither but their products are very fairly priced and sound great.

    Hey Barrie.

Apologies for going slightly off-topic, but you should check out the Cimbalom in True Strike 2. Like the rest of this library, it's pretty damn gorgeous!

Thanks Nick, but the funny thing is I don't even NEED a cimbalom right now so might as well get another, eh?

    regards
