    Sibelius 5 Announcement

Ah, yes, VST and AU support. Should make it MUCH easier to use Garritan products!

Sweet! VST support finally. I've been waiting to ditch Overture, this will be the time!

    Scroll view!

I didn't see any info about advanced MIDI playback getting simplified. Did anyone else?

I would like to hear from those who have used Finale and then switched to Sibelius. Especially, if you have switched to the new Sebelius 5. There is an offer to upgrade for $199. from Sebelius for Finale users. Does this mean that they require one to surrender your Finale software? The upgrade instructions seem to suggest that all is required is to submit the table of contents pages of the Finale Users Manual. Any feedback will be greately appreciated. I somehow get the feeling that Sebelius is about to knock Finale out of the ball park.

I don't know about "simplified", but you can now use VST instruments running through a much more sophisticated mixer which should greatly improve the final audio product, and they tout the ability to define the MIDI aspects of articulations which should greatly enhance the realism of the performance. I guess your familiarity with this technology will determine if it's simplified or not. Was there something specifically you were looking for?

I did a crossgrade to Sibelius 4 from another program (Encore) and they didn't require me to surrender that program (not that I ever used it anyway. I bought it on eBay just to do the crossgrade). I assume the Sibelius 5 crossgrade works the same way. Better to check with Sibelius to be certain.

    Samantha,

The way it worked in the past was that you sent in the first page of the onwer's manual/installation guide - no photcopies. The idea was to make sure you were the "owner" of Finale, and not someone using a pirated copy. I would assume it is the same - but check with them. It did not require that you stop using Finale, just proof that you were/are a legitamate Finale user.

I have both Finale 2006 and Sibelius 4. The new features in Sibelius 5 are wonderful. VST integration will help the way I work. The panorama view is outstanding. I downloaded the demo for 5, opened a choral piece I was working on, and it felt incredible. I could see the score in a new way, it seemed to invited me to make music. Hard to explain, just try it.

Well done and thank you Sibelius!
